In praise of the Moots seatpost.

matthewandre: i just realized what i like about my seatpost
matthewandre: aesthetically
adamkell: ?
matthewandre: the clamp is a circle
matthewandre: and its about the same size as the the dustcap/BB area
matthewandre: two similar elements at either end of the seatpost/ seat tube
adamkell: ah, good eye
adamkell: that's nice symmetry
matthewandre: i agree
matthewandre: never thought of it that way
matthewandre: and design-wise, its pretty hard to go wrong with a circle
matthewandre: visually, structurally, etc
matthewandre: circles are strong
adamkell: are you really bored at work?
matthewandre: oh absolutely
matthewandre: i've already im'd the mr rogers vid to a buncha people
matthewandre: not sure what else to do
matthewandre: i might make a thread
matthewandre: i'm thinkin about it
matthewandre: the threshold, it is low
adamkell: quite
matthewandre: see: quicksilver
adamkell: but there are a lot of other bored people out there
matthewandre: agreed
matthewandre: sigh

It's kindof a ***** to switch saddles, but I've never had anything close to a problem with it. And this is also the guy I used on the tour a couple years back. Quality.

Moots anything is the ****in best...

les walters 05-24-06 02:17 PM

track bikes are the worst period...SS MTB are the ****ing jam...

zerobug 05-24-06 02:37 PM

For twice the cost of a Thomson it better do something.

Matthew A Brown 05-24-06 02:48 PM

I imagine quite a bit of the cost is that the f'n thing is titanium. And I'm not going to argue that the Thomson isn't a better value-- my MTB and my tourer both have Thomsons.

But that's part of why I will inevitably drop good cash on bike treats... three years later I glance at this guy and I'm still learning and noticing things. So maybe that might be zerobug's "something".

biff 05-24-06 05:39 PM

Moots' welds make me weak in the knees.

juvi-kyle 05-24-06 05:49 PM

my next bike...

I didn't mean to criticize, I'm definitely in the "spend too much on pretty bike things" category... just had a minute of sticker shock when I was looking at their site. I rode with a guy on a century that was on a Vamoots and it was some serious hotness. It had the whole stem/post/bottle holder treatment and had a serious industrial beauty thing going on.

Check their cross frame... there's some crazy **** going on with the seat stays.

Matthew A Brown 05-24-06 06:17 PM

Christ, I honestly had no idea **** was that expensive.

Feel kinda like a jerk now, sheesh...

That cross frame is unreal.

BLACKMARKET 05-24-06 06:24 PM

they make nice beater bikes...

Matthew A Brown 05-24-06 06:25 PM

Seriously, that thing is coming off of the bike soon as I get an proper replacement.

--And going on the soon to be SS-MTB, to what I'm gathering will be to juvi-kyle's approval.

eyefloater 05-24-06 07:19 PM

Moots singlespeed 29er ... the thought of that actually made me tingle a little bit. And MY GOD that's the nicest selection of bikes I've seen on a site in months.

juvi-kyle 05-24-06 07:53 PM

not a big Seven fan...but **** maybe I will go with a Matt Chester.

brokenrobot 05-24-06 08:25 PM

Their factory dog is very friendly, too...

zerobug 05-24-06 08:28 PM

Sevens are hot but they are notorious for shoving their geometry and bike positioning ideals down your throat... there are more than a few tales of new owners who didn't get what they were expecting.

Chesty gone night night.
(no more bikeys, dog)

anarchocyclist 05-25-06 12:06 AM

Juvi's new Uno is not the shajam, that Mister Rogers video is the shajam. No disrespect.

Serpico 05-25-06 07:00 AM

I have the same post (non setback as well), it's great--but yeah, it's a pain to change saddles, which I don't do often anyway

moots suggested I use acetone to take the decals off, it took the finish off as well but it looks better anyway

the locust 05-25-06 09:00 AM

this is all i want http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?...0&postcount=35

def not my uno...I would never apply the SF treatment to one of my bikes. It is a friends and I think it is the shajam...so piss off. No disrespect.

edit: wait you are talking about my new SS MTB, not the UNO I posted for a friend. But I still feel the same. No disrespect
