26.4 bar clamp w/ 26.0 Bars??

I have a cinelli stem that has a 26.4 bar clamp and have a 26.0 bar...is there any shim out there that would make them fit? I called my LBS but they said to cut some aluminum pop can and put a strip in there...saying it might hold it in..it might not. any suggestions? experience? Please let me know.

so for a 26.0 to turn into a 26.4...just one strip of soda can will do? BTW these are for bullhorns...I don't know if that makes any difference but I think you do put more pressure on bullhorns especially when skidding.

just make sure the shim covers the entire bar circumference and you'll be A ok...

just play around with the length until you get it right. two layers or so should do.

see this thread
a beer can might not work if you have smooth bars where the bars and stem meet. try it out, if it doens't work, pm me, and i'll send you something that should work better.

I used bar tape. didn't hold too well at first but I took it into a shop and they had a long allen wrench with way more leverage than my multitool. Now it's perfect.

I was using a double beercan shim for a set of bars that didn't fit right, and after 3 months riding I found out that the stem had a noticable crack at the bolt.

When I told the LBS about this their question was if I was using a shim? For what it's worth, the $2 nitto shim might be slightly better than the beercan shim.

thing is, is that the nitto is take make a 25.4 a 26.0..that is an extra .2 I don't need....I'm trying to make a 26.0 fit into a 26.4

are there any nice cinelli stems that are 26.0...haven't seen any on ebay.

i have a cinelli 1a with 26.0. it is pretty awesome. i got it on ebay thinking it would be 26.4 and that i would have to shim but got a nice surprise (clamp diameter wasnt in the auction description). but if the cans aren't working out then sand the nitto jam, it will work for sure

I think 26.0 is the official (old) TTT diameter, some of the mid-80's and 90's cinelli... and also the dura-ace stem diameter, seen here <-- In fact, search the peter white page for 26.0 stems to see what else is out there. Oh yeah and here too see the cinelli XA.

Since a 26.4 bar can be used in a 26.0 stem (although a tight fit), the nitto 25.4 to 26.0 shim will probably work for 26.0 to 26.4 using the same logic.
