stem length for bullhorns
same as for drops? or slightly shorter ala mustache bars? thanks -
|
My stem for bull horns is slightly shorter with no neg drop. With drops I went 20-30mm longer. Do you like to ride stretched out?
|
no, I tend to prefer slightly upright to keep my back from complaining. I shortened my original 100mm drop stem to 80mm when I got some mustache bars, I don't really like them though and now want some bullhorns. If I use the old longer stem, I need to get black bullhorns, if I keep my newer 80mm stem, I would need silver bullhorns.
|
Definetely use something shorter. Drops I used 110-120mm, with the bullhorns I use 80-90mm. They are friggin' sick comfortable.
|
cool...I would rather keep my bike silvery.

+1 on the shorter stem.
Bullorns extend way further forward than drops, so you don't need the long stem. |
now I'm looking...can't find any in 25.4mm clamp, don't want to shim, wtf?

I went through five cheap stems in the past year looking for the magic angle and length that would work for me.
Once I found the correct geometry for me I spent some bucks on a quality (light and strong) stem. The correct geometry for me involved a set-back seat post (35mm set-back) and a rather short six degree stem (90mm) flipped up rather than down. |
