Kryptonite locks pickable?
 

I had a buddy come in the shop today who was using a new version Kryptonite lock, the one with the flat style key, to secure his child trailer. The lock appears to have been picked and the trailer stolen last night. They left the lock...unbroken and unmolested...next to the post is was locked to. Anyone here have any experience with this problem? He is understandably livid that the new so called "inproved" lock was not sufficient to protect his trailer. Any help would be appreciated.

All locks are defeatable in one way or another, given enough time and determination on the part of the thief. If you really don't want something stolen, don't leave it unattended.

sounds like
a) he left the key in the lock and isn't willing to admit it
or b) the lockpicker was proud of his work and wanted some recognition

Is he certain he locked it into a closed area on the trailers frame? Most trailers can be dissembled to nil, at least the ones I've had to put together for family have been. It seems like it would need to be a pretty sweet trailer locked very well for a thief to bother defeating the lock and not some other part of the arrangement.

Point them to Igors to recover? That place is busy every day, so is Unc Jakes on Spadina. The junkies are doing mega business with the warm weather.

I can't find the link, but there's a tool for picking the new Kryptonite lock out there. Like lz4005 said - every lock is defeatable.

The trailer was locked properly. He is a messenger and uses locks on a fairly regular basis. The trailer was a P.O.S. and he is not too bent out of shape about the loss of it. He is however steamed at the easy defeat of a supposed secure lock which he also uses to secure his bike. The lock was unlocked without any apparent damage. The cyclider was blocked with some kind of plastic wrap leading him to believe that some form of probe with plastic wrap was used to pick it. Thoughts?

dunno, a slightly filed krypto key, cylinder filled but not stuffed to capacity with plastic, filed key slightly heated maybe and jammed into cylinder, held there for a sec & turn to open? I still have the evo model I got from you, it's mechanism is pretty smooth after a year+ of use, smoother than I'd like it to be maybe.

At least it sounds like a process, what they did to beat his lock, even if it's just stuffing the keyhole & using a filed master, it won't be good for stealing my rig on a busy street while I'm making a drop. I'd go with my chain & American for overnight, and only on a cheap bike I didn't want anymore:D
