My first NEGATIVE track bike experience
 

I live in San Francisco, above a bike shop, I'd always see people on their track bike stopping at the shop below me while I was in my kitchen. It just looked like to much fun, so I went ahead and saved some money to buy a fixed gear/track bike. I did some shopping and considered building one but didn't have the slightest idea where to start. I went ahead purchased a chrome bianchi pista, I love it. It came with a front brake that I adjusted so it was easier to grab, I feel more safe since I'm just starting out (and I already had some close calls on the street with cars).

This a-hole passes me tonight on the street on his fixed gear and talks S*** about my bike as he passes. I tell him to F*** off and he hurries off like a little baby. Didn't even come back to say it to my face.

What's up with that? Is it like taboo to ride a stock bike, or have a front brake? Anyone have this experience?

I guess people in general have the tendency to look down on others in hopes of making themselves feel better/more superior.
Nothing wrong at all with riding a stock bikes or front brakes. I still ride with my front brakes but its all cool cause I value my head more than my coolness/hardcore factor.
Can't say i've experienced trash talk from other riders, but I do get verbally crapped on pretty much daily by cagers because I live in a suburban place where people only ride sidewalks.
Anyways, hope you don't get too discouraged by this one neg. experience.

Don't worry, world is full of a-holes and I still think that the Stock Pista ei better looking bike than 95% of the "custom builds" here.

Hey man, if you like to ride your bike, ride it and have fun. Some people like to build them up and that's cool, too. Knocking other people's rides isn't so cool, though. Ignore them and have fun your own way.

Some people like to crap on the Pista because it's so "common". Well it may be common, but ti's still a real nice bike for the money. I especially like the baby**** green one. Don't give it a second thought. You love your bike who cares what anyone else thinks. Anyone who;s concerned enough with what YOU ride to talk **** to a stranger is probably more concerned with image than riding anyway. Let 'em ride around thinking they are cooler than you if it makes em feel better about themselves. If they were really that confident they wouldn't need to tear someone else down to feel good about themselves.

the "brakes are weak!" over my avatar is what someone yelled at me as i was locking my bike up on valencia in SF one day.first i laughed,then i wanted to yell-"so is only riding in the mission where theres no hills!" but i let it go..there are some serious riders here,but there's also ******* who ride brakeless and cant stop for sh*T....ride your bike,have fun with your boys,f*ck the haters.

FWIW, I love the looks of the Chrome/White pista. I want one myself.

Like everywhere else in life, there are cool people and sucky ones. I'm sorry you had to have a bad experience so early in your career!

If it makes you feel better, the Bianchi Pista is not really available in Europe.

Bianchi are finally making it available in the UK in "limited quantities".

So your bike is rare in Europe and I know people that drool over the Pistas here. My girlfriends battleship grey one gets a lot more attention than its used to now its in England.

So while people rip 'em in the states, in London people seem to lust after 'em. Its just the way the world turns.

Anyone who would rip it out of a strangers bike is an ass, and deserves to be treated as such.

On the Pista subject, I was thinking of a Fuji Track, for, uh, riding on the track, but if Pista's are coming to the Uk......

I ride a giant so I cop a fair bit.

If I owned a pista over here it would be considered "exotic" by a lot of people.

haha that sucks, people suck too often, just yesterday I was in a bike store saying that's the only reason I wouldn't have a cahroam bianchi, great bike, oddly percieved otherwise by people too concerned with other peoples perception of them. being as it's the only reason, I would have one, cept I don't

I couldnt have said it better myself. Next time chase him down and just talk to him. Ask him what he said, why he felt the need to say it, and what makes him better than you. I've found that makes people extremely uncomfortable.

And in Japan, Pistas are celeste (the regular one, not the Concept). What I wouldn't do...

I switched back to a bike with gears for my SF city bike. So, needless to say... I get remarks from the occasional hipster who thinks he/she owns urban cycling.

Just laugh it off (most of em haven't been on bikes much longer than you, and it shows in how bad they ride). When your fitness improves, you'll be able to ride them into the ground. Till then, enjoy your new bike.

for rilla, if you're fast, you should race him. Just roll up and be like "I'll race you to your mom's house. I'm gonna show her what a silly bike hipster you are, and then I'm gonna show her something else."

and hope he doesn't have a frame pump. then again if he mocks you for running a brake, chances are he hasn't got a pump handy, so let fly with the yo momma jokes, just stay out of U-lock range.
