Chicago June 16-21

i'm coming to town and will probably have my bike. i don't know the area at all, but i'll be staying at my brother's condo on the 40th floor of a highrise somewhere downtownish. what should i do and where should i go?

i'd like to hit up yojimbo's, and possibly the velodrome. do you need to take classes before riding it?

also, has anyone heard of a diner somewhere near the cubs' stadium that is entirely vegan? someone told me about it and said it's called Chicago Diner, but maybe not.

thanks for the info and the invitation, schloe. i should've labeled the dates as the 17th-20th, since the 16th and 21st will be travel days. i wish i could make it to the race though.

I will be around in your visit timeframe.
PM me andf we will hit the velo - I'll show you the banks at speed!
The 17th is a Juniors Only track event - no velo that day, unless you are down to watch. I say everyone should come out and whoop it up for these youngins' - maybe a kenosha trip can be instated?

The chicago diner is a fine vegan establishment. You couldn't rip a juicy tofu powered fart without your wind hitting vegan dining around there, though.

agreed,

pick me up cafe has mad vegan eats too. Vegan tofu scramble is killer i must say, same with their vegan pancakes. Also Noodles In The Pot on Halsted (same street as the chicago diner just like 2 miles south) has great curry with crispy wide noodles, ahhh so good.

Hey man,
I'm a NC native, grew up in Southern Pines and spent a little time living in Greensboro right near you in Winston Salem. I'd be glad to show you around a bit and go on a ride up to that restaurant. I'm also down for going to the track and will likely have room to give ya a ride. Welcome. ~David

Vegan eats can also be obtained at

Earwax on Milwaukee near Damen
Irazu which is off the Western Stop on the Blue line to Ohare
The Handlebar on North near Damen

and the best of all is Soul Vegetarian!!! a completely vegan resturaunt [although in some items they use honey like the bbq sauce- incase you're not a honey eating vegan] Soul Veg is the yummiest! its on 75th street about two blocks east of the Dan Ryan.

well, i'm here. unfortunately, i wasn't able to bring my bike, due to car/space issues. i'm still going to hit up yojimbos at some point, but it sucks that i can't do any riding. we passed the major taylor velodrome in indianapolis (?) on the way up here, and that was pretty cool.

i have my skateboard, so at least i'll be able to cruise around the loop some, try to find some skate spots, and take pictures. i think i'll try to check out uprise skateshop at some point too. if anyone has some skate spots to share, let me know.

thanks again for the info, everyone.

Jesse - head to Wilson and the lakefront path just off Lakeshore Drive and hit the Wilson Skatepark.

I used to skate there regularly. It's actually really nice early in the mornings -- none of the grommets around and all the old schoolers.
