"No brightly colored seats. No neon. Nothing flashy, nothing impractical."

fully custom designs are $3,500 to $5,000, while semicustom bikes (made with stock hand-built frames) start at $2,800. Steel — lightweight, durable and comfortable to ride — is itself a relatively inexpensive material; Jitensha's prices reflect the time and skill it takes to build a bicycle by hand using traditional time-honored materials and methods like lugging and brazing the steel tubes rather than welding them together.
How a $2,800-5,000 bike is practical is beyond me. Talking about having more dollars than sense...

and here i thought this was going to be about Jitensha from Norfolk.

i'll say it. there is no decent pizza in california. and i love california as i spent 8 years in santa barbara. now the mexican chow is a whole 'nother thing.:) :) :)

No no no you have it all wrong. Zachary's for deep dish and Cheese Board for thin sliced stuff. In a pinch, a pizza from Jupiter will do.

curry-in-a-hurry. that place still around?

Terror_in_pink 06-14-06 11:48 AM

ya, cheese board rules. I was just thinking around the immediate vicinity from blondies. and no one best forget the "asian ghetto", i've eaten at thai basil a million times.

There's now an OK Nepali restaurant ("Everest Himalayan" in that location, whose main virtue is that they serve Nepali/Tibetan MOMOs, a favorite food. MOMO are a steamed or fried dumpling like thing. They are great. The funny corner spot has seen a lot of turnover.

I'd take Arinell's over Jupiter if I was downtown.

What about IB's. you can get a bucket of curly cheese fries for a buck and a quarter, there.

I know of one - ONE! good pizza joint in California. it's Giorgio's, at Clement & 3rd in San Francisco. Best pizza west of the Hudson river, imo. Takes me back to Brooklyn.

brunop 06-16-06 06:39 AM
