chipped paint at lock nut and seat post

Any suggestions on how to prevent more chipped paint at the rr wheel lock nut on my rattle-canned frame? (Taking all the paint off is not an option, I want to keep the paint on!)

ffff

hyperRevue 06-12-06 01:25 PM

Stop caring about chipped paint.

But it gets ugly.

hyperRevue 06-12-06 02:00 PM

Cover every inch of your frame in Kashimax then.
:)

I spend all that time giving a hoot when I spray it and within a few days of working on it I mess up the paint. Oh, I care. I care deeply.

Then you shouldn't have rattlecanned it. ;)

lyledriver 06-12-06 03:07 PM

why not just respray the dropouts every time the wheel is off?

hyperRevue 06-12-06 03:16 PM

Okay, seriously.
Why do you care about the paint on the drop out?

OneTinSloth 06-12-06 05:19 PM

on the INSIDE of the dropout, even...

did you strip the old paint before you rattle-canned it? apply primer? apply a clearcoat?

i usually scrape the paint off the whole length of the dropout where the axle nuts are going to go, even on brand spanking new bikes, the paint A. chips, and B. can cause the rear wheel to slip. on my roadie, i scraped the paint to find that the dropouts are polished stainless steel underneath, which is even worse. ...i still haven't gotten around to roughing it up, so i run my QRs super tight.

uhh, how about a quick masking and sanding and rattlecanning that **** again. this isn't rocket science.

spraypaint chips when you look at it funny. Live with it.

eddiebrannan 06-14-06 04:48 PM

get some of that heavy duty truck bed ****, mask and spray just the dropouts. it's harder than rattlecan so it won't chip, plus it will give your nuts something to grip to

in a manner of speaking

OneTinSloth 06-15-06 02:18 AM

heh heh....you said "nuts."

helvetica 06-15-06 03:21 AM

pity post

the locust 06-15-06 06:54 AM

track dropouts are usually chromed or stainless for a reason.

live with it.

feefifofum 06-15-06 07:17 AM

As it is with guitars, so it is with bicycles.
