"I was drunk when I posted this..." encapsulated the entire thing for me.
I take whatever the LBS gives me, with the knowledge that if I want anything else, I've gotta travel 30 miles north or 60 miles south. Then again, I live in BFE Texas. |

Why pretend to be something you're not? Or, when the LBS person asks if you're a messenger, is it just too difficult to say "no, I just like looking like one, without having to actually do the low-pay donkey work"? Considering that messengers break/wear out parts at a much higher rate than ordinary riders (and frequently need parts ASAP to get back on the road, not just as a cool upgrade), the discount makes sense from the LBS viewpoint, if it will lead to establishing a business relationship with messengers. The LBS benefits, the messengers benefit - everyone wins. This idea is undermined when little ******s come in and take something they don't need and don't deserve. Perhaps you haven't considered this idea, or perhaps you simply don't care - I've got my fixie, I've got my bag, I've got a sub-culture, and screw the workers who started it all. If you're that much into "scamming", aim a little higher than the 10% you'll save on buying those 38cm Nittos to replace the 40cm Nittos that ruin the aesthetics of your $2,000 NJS bike. Or try an on-line wholesale retailer, if it's not the thrill of the "scam", but the "principle" of spending an extra whopping $10-15 on your purchase. |
this thread was a joke, i was not really offended, that is all
