big, long quill stem...
 

the search turns up waaay too many answers to be of much use for me here...i'm going to need a quill stem for a new build soon. i don't know too much about what's out there, since i've been using threadless.

but basically i need a 130mm stem that'll hold 26.0 bars so i can run my bullhorns on them. or one with a removable face plate.

i don't really need a nitto jaguar stem or anything really fancy. but so many quill stems i see at bike shops are pretty short and just made for road bars or cruiser bars. so what's big enough to get other things through and long enough to give me the sort of room/handling i'm accustomed to, and not too spendy?

edit: forgot to mention, too...if you think patience and the LBS parts bin will work, great. but i may have to buy off the internet.

There always seem to be tons of long quills on ebay. Finding a nice 80mm was much harder.

meh, i don't really use ebay. then again, i have friends who do, and i could just ask them to use their accounts and what not and just give them the money.

okay, i looked at the first link and thought "well, for a few dollars more, a jaguar is pretty hot."

but the second seems closer to what i'm looking for. not sure if there's a better deal or i need to hit ebay, but it's got the clamp diameter and length i need. and it doesn't cost 85 bucks or whatnot.

I have a 130 ITM italmanubre quill with a 26.0 clamp in black. It's not sparkly perfect, but it's yours if you want it. You can send me a drawing or t-shirt or some other silly crap in return.

i haven't posted pics. mostly cuz it's not "done", but i guess i could use the art(s) in progress thread. right now it's in "ghetto but rideable" phase, where it's my backup/rain bike just in case anything happens.

but i have bigger plans for the frame and the stem you sent works nicely. sorry i haven't pm'ed you back. i'm forgetful, but every time i ride that bike i suddenly remember to write you back. and am not on the computer. anyway, i've got the box saved so as soon as i can afford some coffee and stuff for you, i'll send it posthaste.

that coffee was damn good, by the way. waaay better than my usual el cheapo brand purchases.

I have a 130mm ITM Eclypse I will be swapping out for a 120mm Salsa when I get around to it. If I had it switched out already I'd bring it with me to Portland. It's the one on my Bridgestone on my Velospace page.

ha ha, that's exactly what's on there now. i kinda like it.

Some just donated a 140 (possibly 150) Salsa quill stem to our co-op. It's crazy long!

wow. way longer than i'd need...but damn. i've never seen anything like that.

I have 4 Nitto Pearls. They are all about 1cm longer (c-t-c) than their labeled size. Cinelli's, or at least the 1A, is spot on for c-t-c length.

Right, the Pearl measures correctly c-t-c from the bolt to center of the bars, along the vertical center of the extension. The Cinelli, otoh, measures correctly along the top. Perhaps it a case of the Cinelli measuring short.

Rivendell.com has brand new Nitto stems in all the sizes: tall, taller, and tallest.
