Single speeding and beer

I have visited some of these single speed websites. It seems like single speeding and beer go hand in hand. Surly even came out with a tensioner that doubles as a beer bottle opener.

I'm quite the fan of Sam Adams. However, some of the best beers I've had are microbrews in Ft. Collins, CO. Easy Street Wheat is one of my personal favorites. Too bad we can't get it out here in the St Louis area.

Anyone have any thought?

There's definitely a connection between singlespeeding and beer. I think it's the laid-back, let's just have fun attitude that many singlespeeders have instead of the uptight, racerboy attitude some magazines portray. I'm not much of a drinker. I know how to have fun without it but I did attend a little rally this summer where the emphasis was singlespeeds and microbrew. If your gonna drink, drink the good stuff.

Berkshire Brews Steel Rail, local Western MA brew... fine fine stuff. If you can lay your hands on a jug, I recommend it!

Harpoon Brewery (a not too bad beer from Boston) is a sponsor for a bicylce messenger (which is almost synonomous with track bike riders) race in Boston this coming May. Previously Tremont Ale has done the same.

Also another note on track bikes and beer. No brakes and a super tight headset allow for you to drink beer while riding much easier than other types of bicycles. :)

My local cycle campaign group used to be coincident with the real ale society, to the point where, when one member passed away, we opened a memorial bike rack at his favourite pub.

Fixed-gear = beer drinker. I can speak from my own experience.

PBR seems to be the beer to drink around here among messengers and whatnot. When there is a free evening we like to have a beer, ride to a bar, have another beer, ride to another beer, and so on and so forth. It's more fun than just sitting somewhere getting sloppy. Riding in between keeps your energy up a little while you are buzzed I guess..
