Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Chicago: BIKE SWAP MEET ~ where? when? who's bringing the beer?

I'm calling a Chicago bike swap meet.

Where should it be?

When should it be?

Who's bringing the kererator?

PS - It's an all bike swap meet, not just "fixed gear / ss / hipsters wearing bandanas around their necks like dogs" kinda thang.

I think we'd be kicked out in a park. We'd need a permit.

In.
You could be doing blow off a dead hooker with a needle sticking out of your arm and
you wouldn't get kicked out of Humboldt.

Last night I met someone from "the camps" -
the people that live in the park. He gave me
some good stealth camping tips that we could use for our trip.

Sorry dude, I can't go back in time. Guess I'm not fast enough
to reverse the earth's rotation.
But Saturday the 22nd of July works for me. We could grill it out and
make a day out of it.

We might be able to hold it in the backyard of the shop I volunteer at (west town bikes) if we kick in a donation or something.

I'd be willing to host. I have more parts than I can transport, and I can transport a fair bit. Some of basically anything you could want, although not much track/fixed stuff.

*edit: I do have LOTS of chainrings in LOTS of sizes and bcds

so......... actual date?

My girlfriend is coming home tomorrow, which means I'm not going to be sitting bored on the internet.

the 29th? The evening of the 23rd? Is this going to tie in with the Bike Love event? https://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=206780

I can't do the 29th or 30th, but I'll be there otherwise...i don't have an insane amount of stuff to bring, but I'll definitely be down for meeting a lot of folks and trading for what I got.

I have very little, if anything, to trade.

I work until 5. I'm totally down with hosting, but I live at 24th and Marshall Blvd (approximately Sacramento), which is a bit of a hike for lots of people. I do, however, have a SERIOUS parts stash, (I think I have 10 milk crates of stuff that will fit in milk crates, plus stuff that won't).

*EDIT: we have TWO grills, a nice large side-yard, and LOTS of bike parking. I also have lots of tools if we want to combine this with the Bike Love event.

Dudes, stop doing cool **** without me! Have the goddamn decency to either wait for me to get back to Chicago or keep it on the DL!

You're making this newbie feel like a newbie.
