Crank Lengths

A guy I have ridden with found out that his freind has a set of sugino 75 cranks and a bottom bracket he is willing to sell cheap and I am interested in getting them, the only issue is they are 170mm instead of 175mm which is what I ride with right now. I would just try riding his bike except he lives on the other side of the country so thats no good. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how that difference in size would affect my ride? I don't have acess to test it out myself which I assume is the best way, but like I said, no dice.

Basically I want to know what the general consensus is, wether or not the cranks would work for me for daily riding.

Thanks in advanced.

Well, after switching from 170 to 165, lemme tell you: it's not that bad. For me at least.

long cranks=better climbing and accelerating from dead stop
short cranks=better spin (and top speed?)

leg length is also important. how tall are you, and are you proportional?

What a great question. I mean, I know what you're asking, but it's just very funny to read.

You won't notice the difference. I have both, and I would be hard pressed to tell you which is which. 6'1" for the record, and proportional I guess.

i've used 165,167.5,170 not much of a difference.
you probably won't notice the reduction in length, but if you do, you'll should get used to it in no time.

6'5, less legs, more upper.

If I wont notice the difference I am going to pick them up

yeah you'll be fine with 170mm cranks, don't go under that though, just because you are tall. I am 6'3 and found 170mm cranks perfect ( I have a 34 inch inseam, more legs less upper)
