Brooks Leather Bar Tape - Anyone Here Used It?

Have seen it on sale lately and wondered if anyone here has any experience with it...sure looks swank but not sure how it would be long term. Anyone?

It is a little spendy for bar tape, but it looks very nice. I often wonder how hard it would be to make your own.

I also scuff my tape reasonably often, but I get the Cinelli for $6-$7, not $60 for the Brooks

it's spendy, I would find cheaper leather unless you really have to match your brooks. I'd go with laced anyway if you want leather, it's easier to care for, lighter and cheaper. Somebody had a DIY guide here or on FGG on how to do it starting from scratch.

I have a few friends who have it on their bikes. It looks great, and is very comfortable. It does get scuffed up though when you crash, as you can imagine. My only problem with it is I wissh they didnt stamp the brooks logo all over it.

i haven't used it but i work at a shop that sells it.

i've seen some bikes come back after having it on for a few months, and it looks BAD.

the honey colored stuff, at least, turns a pale, greenish, translucent color really only suited for a zombie-themed bicycle.

the antique and black stuff may weather better, but if you're looking for tape to match your honey colored saddle, think again. it doesn't hold up. proofide may help, i don't know.

I had mine on for a few months (honey) and it's getting a bit scuffy, which I like. It loses its color by staining your gloves, but it's the most comfortable grip I've tried so far. It's perfect if you like to ride without gloves, very grippy, very comfy although they're a little bit heavy-ish (its noticeable). I've tried wrapping it really thick before and it was just just sublime for putting your weight forward and skidding.

A friend of mine has it. Ridden it through some rain and bad weather, and it's still doing fine. Nice and comfortable, scuffed up a little, but not terribly. How much is it on sale for?

Brooks Honey

I've attached a photo of the Brooks tape after 4 months of usage on my racing bike. It's very comfy. I've not ripped it yet. I wear black leather gloves, so that's had an effect, but I still think it looks good.

I may be confusing this with another issue. Is this the guy with the very large chainring that was hurt in NYC.

I've had the honey bar tape on my ride for the past three or four months. No where near the original color. It still feels and works great, and I imagine it'll last a while, but if I had to do it over again I don't know if I'd spend all the cash.

Tennis grips

I seen people using leather wrap for tennis rackets for a fraction of the price, its like £6 a roll, one roll might do just one side, but still nearly as cheap as normal bar tape, I suppose it should fair about the same too

I have it in black. Got it pretty cheap (for brook's bar tape) through ben's bikes. It's super comfy and has lasted a lot longer than any cork wrap i've used. It probably would last longer if i wasn't so terrible at putting it on. It's going to be replaced by something in the near future. I got it about a year and two months ago.
