Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

edit : pretty good post, opened my eyes up for sure. i carry a chain and a mini u-lock for the front wheel. i look up to trees alot, i figure who is gonna knock down a tree without someone noticing.
also why not steal a bike without 2 kryptonite locks on it, it would be much easier.

It happened to me! About 6 years ago. Add to the loss of losing your bike, the $100+ worth of locks, and it makes for an exceptionally frustrating robbery. It was a very tall no-parking sign.

Sweet bike, btw.

Since I learned my lesson - I now have a decent beater for getting around. Looks like sht but rides nice. I applied rustoleum paint to it with a regular paintbrush. And I now use a decent lock, but nothing like what you've got there or like what I had stolen. At the very least, wrap your bike in that bike-protector stuff to tone down the -wow- factor a little.

won't the mini-mini-U (or whatever you call it) fit through the saddle rail?

I don't see a problem with this technique, as long as you're locked to something other than a sign post.

What's the point of the hardcore locks if there's even the possibility of so easily circumventing them? Relative to the fact that they're being locked to a sign, the locks are overkill. In general, better safe than sorry.

Ditto, forget carrying all that extra crap around.

I would love for someone to dance up to my bike and steal it. I would be dying of laughter to do anything about it. If someone posts that NEISTAT bros. video one more time, I don't know what I'll do, but it won't be pretty.

If they want, they will take it.

Total bikes stolen from me is 4 but got one back after 5 years. The last was a custom Alma Pura frame.I will find that bike.

I used a 25.00 lock now. If I ride again it will be the same.

Nice Atala.
