oh i thinking this coming out as a double post...

ok well im going to score some cash in a few weeks (600$) and im looking in to a fixed gear road bike.

I would like you to sugest all the parst i should get, like cheap (but not too cheap) cranks, rear hub, frame, fork, wheels, BB, chain, cogs, and tools for the cogs... im going to try to find a doner bike for this, but i dont want to spend that much money.

frame, bars, stem, seatpost, saddle obviously.

the only tricky part is the drivetrain. you will need a fixed rear hub. a complete wheel can be had online fairly cheaply but you must have a fixed hub capable of taking a lockring. any track hub will do.

the only tricky part is getting good chainline. your store ought to be able to help you determine what length bb spindle will be needed to bring the cranks into line with the hub.

theoretically, if the bike you have is suitable for conversion your only outlay ought to be the rear hub/wheel and a new chain. if you need a new spindle or new bb too then this will increase the expensed, though not by much.

google sheldon brown and read the section of his site regarding fixed gear bicycles. he has all the information and sets it out well.

the last conversion i had cost me under a hundred in parts, and that was for a wheel and a chain, plus some new toe straps.

yeah, i know something about making a fixie, i have read sheldons (and others) stuff, but i was looking for part names/makers, that were cheap and not cr@p... like phill wood aperenly rocks, but the hub cost more than my 2 beater bikes...
and i havnt seen any shimano track hubs... and im not very familiar with many companies that make BB's and hubs... i know some, but its more of the high end stuff thats like ~200$ for like a crank set and 150+ for the bb... i dont want that. i want like 50$ parts... 150$ total, hub (50), cranks + BB(100)... get it?

EDIT: but thanks for the feed back, i will check out the spidle lengths at the lbs, ill see if i can build it over at his store lol...

EDIT2: also is there a flip flop with both sides fixed (not one being free hub) some thing that you guys like, i see a few... 70$ sounds ok

Suzue NJS Flip-Flop Fixed/Fixed Hub Sets $274.95 out of my range...

why not just use the cranks on the bike if you're on a budget?
miche make a decent hub at a great price.
their cranks are good too, if you plan to buy a track crank set. you might be able to score a used set for a bill, and if you have an ISO bb you're good with that.
if you have JIS then get you a sugino 75. make the choice according to what bb your donor (not doner - that's a kebab) bike comes with.

actualy, i think i have a crank set that i think i could use, its from an old singal speed, it was my moms, but while i was riding it like a tard, i ramed it in to a gate and destroied the fork and front wheel... i will take it apart tomoro and see what fits... maybe all i need is a new rear wheel (hub rim spokes, everything)... but im still not very sure how this cog thing (and lock ring) works, im reading in to right now but not realy sure, does the cog screw on to the hub, and then the lock ring screws on right after but with a revers tread???

sounds like all you need to get started is a new rear wheel, or at least new hub. jusr order a basic iro wheel for 100$ or so, a cog and a lockring, and say a new chain, and use the rest of the parts you've got laying around. get it rolling, ride the hell out of it, and then see if you wanna throw more money at upgrades or a nicer frame or whatever.

Come on man, that post is like posting "I'm hungry. I would like for you to suggest all of the ingredients that I need for dinner."

Specific questions will get better answers than general ones.

yes exactly

here is a pic of a so-called "fixed-fixed" hub, which has two sets of cog threads and two sets of lockring threads, so you can see what i'm talking about

the lockring threads onto the smaller diameter section of threads and the cog onto the larger

So you don't want to spend any money, but you want top quality parts.

usps shipping a package of 28 pounds to Finland is about $100 (4-10 day service). An IRO wieghs way less than 28 pounds and cost about 600, now you just need 100 for shipping.
