anyone else break toeclips like crazy?

I snap the MKSs in half on average, once every two months, one time, two in under 24s.

Here's a thought.......switch to clipless...........I know its all new school and you have to wear absurd cycling shoes (even though you can get mtn bike ones that work great to walk in)

check out soma's double gated toe clips.
they're a little stronger, and if you **** up one strap gate you've still got another to ride on until you can get new clips.

or just get mtb clips which are a more durable and cheaper!

Stop banging them on the ground, and they'll last a lot longer.

I snapped an MKS steel but that was operator error due to my strap being installed improperly, and coming undone during a skid. It was okay though, because I didn't like them and went with the Soma clips which fit me a lot better. I like the double strap entry point that doesn't dig into the top of my foot.

I broke three pairs of Campy aluminum clips within a few weeks, and with those went my hope of utilizing a free pair of C-Record pedals...

i've gone through only one pair of plastic/nylon toeclips, just from gooning around, i figure thats just usual wear and tear you know.. I have a bigger problem with the straps ripping from tightening them too much or something, i've gone through 5 straps, all nylon

I have never broken a pair of toeclips but I have snapped plenty of straps in my day (worse than breaking a clip imo). I just bought a laminated pair for my commuter and they snapped in about 2-3 weeks! They completely delaminated all over and then snapped when I was accelerating from a light. The real key is to never let them drag on the ground, but in reality they do this an awful lot so theres not really much you can do. I have been considering switching to clipless on my commuter but its easier to put on my runners and I'm always running late in the morning.

I also have a set of the soma double gate toe clips which are nice, but they only come in one size and I actually find them too big for my size 11 feet...

what i did when i was breaking straps like crazy was to tighten them so my feet would go in the clip and stay there. then i just left them tightened. they're always good for my feet and are real easy to get in and out... i also havn't busted straps in eight months or so.

plus, it's a lot easier to bring your feet out real quick and slip them back in if you gotta stop fast and put your feet down (my technique for lighting a cigarette now).
