Clipless Shoes
I am looking at which pair of clipless shoes to get. I am not sure which pair would be best I am looking at pretty much the same shoes but one pair is MTB and the other is Road. I am not sure if the loss in energy transfer is worth being able to walk in them. I ride mostly for recreation and to get two and from work... but also when I am on a quick run for a small purchase at the store. What are others thoughts on mtb vs road shoes?

I would probably have purchased the wrong ones if I did not try them on in the store. The ones I thought I wanted didn't feel right on my feet. Try them on at your LBS if you can.

If you get good mountain bike shoes (Sidi Dominators!), you shouldn't have and loss of energy transfer compared to road shoes, but the tread makes a big difference in walkability. I can walk around just fine in my Dominators. Though I wouldn't want to walk around in them all day, they're fine for stopping at the grocery store and such.

Yeah, I am looking at either the Genius road shoes or the Dominator MTB shoes. I want to be able to walk a little, but I do ride hard and fast.
I have already tried on the Genius at the lbs and have not found a store yet with my size in the Dominator... I have rather large feet a size 50.

You can ride plenty fast with MTB shoes. Lots of road bike riders use them. I have a cheap-ish pair of Specialized BG mountain shoes that I like a great deal.

arent the doms just as stiff as the geniuses? They seem to be quite the same, but the doms have some tread blocks, adding both traction and weight.

if you're going sidi, be sure to download and print out this sizing chart available at sidiusa.com. the chart led me to a 43.5 narrow, and it's a perfect fit.
i don't see why people make such a big deal of walking around in dominators. once they're broken in, they're just as comfortable as any other shoe. i ride to work, wear them all day, and ride home monday through friday. if you're going to bring a change of shoes, you might as well be wearing road shoes.
