Single Speed Conversion Help (Chicago)

Hi, I am pretty new to the forum, and not sure if I should I post here or the Mechanic portion. I bought a Raleigh Grand Prix recently and am interested in doing a single speed conversion. I am wondering if anyone in the Chicago area can help guide me through out the process. There are beers, lots beers for anyone who is willing to help. I live in Bridgeport to be exact. Thanks a bunch.

What exactly would you like to do to it ? I think Bridgeport is kinda close to me in Palos Hills.

Read this, and reread until you understand everything:

and then go to west town bikes

BTW, you have a multispeed freewheel rear hub, not a cassette freehub. You'll need to know that to get the most out of the aricle above and to prevent you from buying the wrong parts.

Landgolier helped me out too when i asked about converting my bianchi strada to ss. it was pretty easy really..just sounds hard.

Thanks for the link to the article. I have read it a few time, and have a pretty understanding of what I need to do. Another problem is that I don't have the right tools, and that was one reason I posted here. Bridgeport is just right outside of downtown, so it is kinda far from Palos Hills.

Lack of tools = why I told you to go to west town bikes

Exactly. I help run a couple open shops there and would gladly help you out. Come out on a Tuesday or the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 7-10.

hey, I live in bridgeport too and my friends and I are about to build some fixies. We're not noobs, but we're not experts either, but it will be a fun experience building these bikes. Maybe we can get together sometime.
