They're also the fastest wearing tires I've ridden - front shows a little wear, rear shows quite a bit considering they're 3 months old, and lots of little cuts - but maybe the cuts are more visible because they're colored? But I'll probably get at least a few thousands more kms out of them. They've only got them in yellow now, but I might have to get another set anyway. Ridden in Montreal (Philly has bad streets, ha!) by a 225 pound rider, no skids except to show off a couple times. |
bontrager race lite hard case - they ride much better than gators and after 10months riding everyday brakeless, i'm yet to flat. probably should've changed tires a couple of weeks ago b/c they've started to show some significant wear, but still no problems. i'm starting to wonder what i have to do to kill these things.

I ran Czar CST tires for a long time when I lived in Tallahassee. I got them dirt cheap at a LBS and loved them. Now that I moved here and don't know anyone at the shops, I have to pay $27 for each tire and I go through the back one in like 2 weeks usually. I need to find a cheaper tire heh :(.

i strongly advise against kenda kampaigns. i beleive pyramid continues to distribute these to bike shops, despite their being discontinued. i picked a set up at my LBS when i was short on cash, as they were the least expensive 700x23's they had @ $18 a pop. these things wear rediculously quick, have terrible traction, and are extremely prone to flats. the sidewall in my front tire blew out on a descent.
this is in stark contrast to bontrager selects and irc redstorms, which are great tires around the $15 price point |
add me to this long list vouching for the Bontragers. i rode them through philly almost daily for a year, including the glass covered roads outside of center city and haven't had a flat yet. only occasional skidding/skipping so not much wear from that, and they feel nice.
they also come in a few colors. |

i got a pair of fortezza SEs for $25 a pop at performance and have been running them for a month with no problems. they roll faster than the conti ultrasports that came with my pista. the ride is smooth, and i like the 140psi. it's not a good ride until you feel it in your bones. i'll never buy contis though. those things made me feel like the bike was going to fall out from under me in a hard corner. not so with the fortezzas. they're grippy! i think when my new wheelset gets here though i'm going to get me some Vittorias, forget what model, but someone mentioned them to me on this forum sometime or other... |
