Good lbs in Boston...
 

...for wheel truing/tensioning. I was going to teach myself, but a car door and a broke hand later, I don't feel like dicking with it right now. Price isn't as important as having it done right, fyi.

i've never had a wheel trued there, but i'd recommend either boston bicycle or cambridge bicycle (same owners) based on the fact that everyone is super nice, they know what they're doing, they've always treated me well, and their prices are competitive. i have yet to hear of someone with a negative experience at either shop.

try broadway bikes. i've gotten attitude at cambridge a few times and don't go there anymore.

it's not rocket science.

I've got friend's that work there[both locations], don't get wheels tensioned nor trued there.

this may sound a bit out of the ordinary, but International Bike in Newton replaced a broken spoke and trued my wheel for $12 while I waited and threw in a set of free bar plugs. I don't know if International Bike in Brighton would do the same, as they've flaked out on me several times.

going to boston bike on beacon street on the weekends is a lost cause as far as i'm concerned. it seems that i always run into the same guy that doesn't know ****.

once i get my truing stand, i'll hook anybody up ... for some beers

broadway bike might be an option, but definately not same day service.

Damn, so many opinions. Well, which ever way i go, at 220 pounds I'll kill a poorly done wheel pretty quick, hence why I need my machine built wheel done in the first place.

hence why my latest wheel set is 36 4-cross!

I've been using the International Bike in Brighton just because it's close to where I live, and they've been ok so far for wheel truing and spoke replacement in a hurry. The new place right on Comm Ave, landry's bikes seems pretty good. I was in there today buying shoes (got a pair of sidis :-P ) and was impressed with everyone I talked to. Plus they give you a discount if you're a member of massbike.

hassan at boston bikes can build a pretty good wheel... but you'll have to go this week because I think he's moving to london in a couple of weeks.

He is moving, and I'm going to miss him. He does build a good wheel, and he's a quality dude as well.

I've built up some wheels recently as well, it's real fun to do. If anyone needs wheels built, I don't charge much.

Actually Hassan at Boston Bike built the wheel set for me. I had asked for 36 3-cross because I tip the scale at approx. 200 lbs, and when I picked it up he just kinda mentioned that "well, since you wanted something strong, I made it 4-cross instead." No complaints here!

that's one of the many reasons I love the guy.

I've had 3 wheels built out in Newton at Harris Cyclery, and they are all incredible. Laced super tight and haven't had any of them trued in 3 years (I also weigh 210 lbs). If you are willing to make the trip out to see them it will be well worth your time. I think a build there costs $40 plus parts.

Avoid Back BAy Bikes and Bicycle Bills. Bills tends to nickle and dime you for everything and I just can't stand the people at BB Bikes. I always used Community Bikes back when I delivered if I could afford to, other wise I would just do it myself.

i like the folks at bikes not bombs a lot. i head there instead of broadway for used parts, and frames.
