you're overreacting. but I feel like if you still decide to unfortunately go through with your decision, you owe the people a decent explanation.

Yeah as a pretty active supporter I'd like to know a little more about why. I feel like that's a huge loss to the messengering world.

You may want to put a notice on your site. I'd be plenty po'd if I donated more cash to find out it's going belly up.

+1
I had a shop purge of a bunch of old bikes and parts this past weekend. Raised a few bucks for the BMEF...$175 actually. I come in to work this morning to a $#itstorm regarding the BMEF. I agree that an explanation should be forthcoming. Jean put in a lot of work to get this up and running and keep it up and running. I understand if it has become un-managable for him at this point and perhaps needs a little break from the daily grind of it. What I do not understand is an immediate, self-imposed shut down of a fund that has been reasonably successful and that well meaning people have tried to support. Funny how a couple of clown's can screw up the works for everybody...well not funny but you know what I mean.

this thread is useless without explanation of drama

seems like you're referring to a specific incident here.

its a shame to see the bmef go, it was not only good for those who needed assistance after being injured, but it was a cause that all of us could get behind, regardless of occupation or percieved status.

the details are obviously none of my business, but i'm interested in knowing whatever people would like to share.

thanks jean for giving us something to agree on.

you would say that. why do you always have to try to be all level headed and cool? tomorrow night at polo, were fighting.

There was a kerfuffle (i love that word) with a Montreal messenger who got all bent out of shape that his request to the BMEF was posted on the D.C. list. Mis-communication appears to be the culprit but now many have gone off half-cocked. If Jean wants to remove himself from the operation of the fund that is his decision, however the BMEF will continue to do the work he started under the leadership of other, already involved, messengers.

thanks for the info cavernmech, and it's good to hear the org will keep going.

Kerfuffle ftw.

I was wondering at the whole circumstance, as Jean is listed as president, not in the board of directors. The not for profits I'm part of, the board makes the ultimate decisions.

It's a tough go, speaking from personal experience, to work in a nfp. There's always someone who's got their shorts in a knot and you're working with primarily volunteer help. A very thick skin is a job requirement. Props to Jean for getting this going and everyone for pitching in to keep it so.
