Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Mine sure became a sorry mess after I got caught out in it.
Go easy on the Proofide! Over conditioned leather loses all its ability to hold tension. On a b17 four or five coats is lots; a pro or thicker saddle can probabvly stand more.

If you leave your bike in the rain just get a waterproof saddle cover like velo orange's aardvark, and NOT like the official non waterproof brooks cover.

My Pro doesn't like to get seriously soaked; twice in the past it has badly discolored from water damage but both times it magically recoloured itself due to the proofide circulating around. It's alive!

Also recommend using a layer of Pecard's leather dressing on the Brooks. Every few months. It'll help revitalize the leather and protect from elements. Museums use the stuff to restore old leather.

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

Hey Zach. Yesterday you missed someone bumping the "why are fixed gears considered hipster bikes" thread from a year ago. It's been a strange few days.

Well, the more I ride my brooks, the more broken in it gets. Thusly my ass sits a little further down in the saddle, and if I'm following your logic, my love deepens as well.

ah it just seemed a bit troll-like, no biggie. I guess im a bit worn out on people bashing on brooks, because it seems to happen a lot. That and I think they look great on the right bike. blanket aesthetic statements rarely seem to lead to interesting discussions.
