NYCBikes question..
I just got back from the NYC Bikes shop and test rode this set-up and loved it. I'm a noobie in the fixed gear world – plus it seems people hate NYCB here. The guys seemed real cool there, anyone have a fixie from them and happy with it?

get the bike you want. i've had a couple bad experiences with their customer service, some have had trouble with their wheelsets. some havent. they offer a free wheel truing after an initial "break in" period for the wheels. you might have to leave your bike there for a day or three, but if you go with their bike i recommend you take advantage of that.
|
just get an iro or pista and save yourself some loot and trouble. Iro wheels won't need to be 'broken in' and Tony is just a better human being than the ******bags at NYCbikes.
Hate to sound like a broken record, but it's the truth. |
The NYCBike is a good choice. You won't be dissapointed and I think you get to choose a color don't you?
You can always go the shop if you're in Brooklyn too. Does IRO have a store front? |
/\ lol at the transparency
|
Transparent because I have never had a problem with them? Or transparent because I live underground?
|
Transparent because you've made 5 posts and 4 of them were defending NYC Bikes.
shill |
You need pros & cons of a subject.
Will is alright. I have more than 5 too. S/F, CEYA! |
I agree with you ceya. But you've given a lot to the board. Made many posts, put up pictures of nice bikes, given us crazy stories from Iraq, etc. Humble_Biker has a total of 5 posts. Ever. Probably more now. He seems to be having a productive day. It almost seems like his entire agenda is to defend NYC Bikes.
|
i'll say it again and if you want to hate my freedom, go for it man:
my NYCBikes DeepV wheelset rocks my socks! |
BOOYA! can humble_biker to a spy from NYCBikes?
|
Do I detect a bit of paranoia in the "I Hate NYCBikes Club"?
Or is this forum just for people with negative attitudes? I like'em and have never had a problem with them. What's wrong with defending them you cry babies? I only have five posts because I'm new here, go figure that one, duh. Oh, and grow up. |

I don't think any names were slung at your direction (other than the "transparent" comment). And sure you're new here, but if 4 out of 5 of your posts were defending NYCBikes, red flags do seem to pop up. Just sayin... |
starve it and it will die

"Every single bike comes with a warranty; when it breaks - we fix it, squeaks - we lube it. You wanna know how to change a flat? We'll teach you. Don't want your hands greasy? We'll do it for you.
Will | Shopowner i think they left off the "whenever we get around to it damnit!" part at the end of this quote. |

Geometry can be ugly?
That's funny, and here I am, like a sucker, thinking it's about how the bike performs. |

It's a good solid frame. The welds are sloppy, but no more than most off the peg AL frames. You get what you pay for.
The prices on their completes seem a bit high for me, but I think it's the fork they choose. I had good luck with my order, but the sheer amount of complaints posted here probably will keep me from ordering again. |
Budget Steel >> Budget AL, IMHO. Regardless of brand, vendor, or color.
|
Filet weld is my preference. But a quality bead weld is a flat one with very little "hump" transition from tube to weld to tube. Last NYCbikes I saw were pretty nice for an import frame. My aplogies for using the term "cry babies". But I think spy, transparent, etc are name calling too. IMHO

Well, I went with NYCBikes fixie. I never dealt with Will, only the younger guys working there – they were pretty cool, answered all questions and didn't get jerky with me. I was thinking of getting an IRO until I got attitude from the guy at Bike Doctor down the street, they have a bunch of IRO frames but only a few you can test out. Plus he seemed bothered whenever you tried to ask him a question. Hopefully when I need a tune-up, my feelings about NYCBikes won't change..
