help with 24" rim options
a friend has a 24" schwinn varsity that she wants to convert to fixed or at the very least single speed. where can i get rims that will fit that frame to have built up with a flip flop hub? are we going to be stuck building with 24" bmx rims or do rims exist more in the 22mm road-type width range?

you can get 24" aeroheads from velocity. not sure about deep v's. you might have to have a shop special order them, though.
|
**** it, go BMX, that would look ill on a varsity.
|
yeah, get some of the 5-spoke bmx wheels from the 80s. the bike would look like all the ones with aerospokes, but way cheaper. then you could laugh silently inside when you see their bikes...all "ha ha, sucker".

courtesy of harris cycery, i now know that there are two 24" sizes. i think this is the one you're looking for.
apparently it's also used on recumbents so it might be worth going to that forum and having an ask fsnl sparky |
finding a rear wheel might be harder, it seems like 'bent wheels are usually only small on the front end.
i sort of assumed the op meant 24" road wheels, rather than the smaller ones. or, wait...are the road ones the small ones? i just know one's more common for road and more common in general, the other for mtb. |
if all danish is looking for is the rim, then front or rear won't matter...
i think the moral of this story is: rim size designations are stoopid. the only thing to do might be to get a tape measure out and check the old rim or the distance between the dropouts and the brake pads... fsnl sparky |
right...rims, not whole wheels. gotcha.

i looked at velocity's site, and there are a few more options under "bmx".
|
remember, tri-spokes are the new deep v's
http://i2.ebayimg.com/01/i/05/8f/91/6e_1_b.JPG and I still say something like this http://img.timeinc.net/bmx/content/i...rod/image1.jpg or this http://www.flybikesbmx.com/noticias/images/rims02.jpg would rock the jam on a varsity. infact, I may go looking for an old varsity just to put those wheels on. |
pretty similar setup to what a very short friend is building...24 inch aeroheads on a 38cm schwinn something or other...

well i certainly don't want a BENT wheel! what good would that do?!? i'd have to go and get it trued or something and... seriously though, +1 on the velocity and chucks pointers. bmx rims are an easy and colorriffic option, but she's already got the wide clunky stock wheels on there. she's looking for road wheels. |
i dread to think. fsnl sparky |
