decent, inexpensive floor pump.
 

so far this summer alone i've ripped through two bell floor pumps from kmart. i'm tired of never getting up to pressure, i'm tired of my pump letting more air out than it puts in, and i'm tired of having pumps break at extremely inconvinient times.

what's a good quality, inexpensive floor pump. i'm thinking something in the twenty to thirty bone price range.

"good" and "inexpensive" are usually mutually exclusive, in my experience with floor pumps.

not the schwinn one they have at target. its better than the bell, but not by much. ive got two pumps with the receipts taped to them, waiting to go back to the store.

i've only ever found one pump ever that always worked the way i wanted it to, it was a nos lapize frame pump. that pump was great until the aluminum body got bent in two when i had to lay my bike down.

I've had bad experiences with Park's lesser pump.

I'm presently using a Rennkompressor. It is so nice to use, I enjoy pumping up my tires. Everything is over-built on it, including the cast base. I paid $50, but it beats buying several $30 pumps, and never getting high enough air pressure.

I've been using the cheapest Specialized pump (~$30) for the last few months with no problems at all.

Park's prof. floor pump is the almighty grail. I ****ing love that thing.

Bought a red Schwinn with gauge not to long ago -> TOTAL CRAP - returned it for a silver Raleigh -> CRAP (still use it though).

The Zefal pumps named after dogs (Malamute, Husky, etc) are good, fixable if they should break, and cheap.

used silca? love me some silca. you can rebuild 'em, too. got mine for $20 on c-list.

Note; if you want high pressure you have to choose a pump with a narrow tube

I bought some Planet Bike pump for $25 at my lbs and it (supposedly) has a lifetime warranty and is "completely rebuildable."

It's been fine so far though, I have no trouble getting up to 120 psi (which is as high as I care to go).

i've had a blue nashbar one for a year and haven't had any problems with it. not that it's extrememly nice or anything, but it gets the job done.

This year's Specialized pumps are superb. The heads work really well, the hoses don't get cut, and the main pump assembly is durable and works hard. I use one on the track almost daily and it's the pump that everyone else around tries to borrow because it works so well. The polished aluminum top model is only $49 at my local shop and is the one I use, but the $30 painted one is the same design and internal components.

silca track pump. mine is going on 21 years. rebuilt 2 times.

in defense of the joe blow (which my roommates and i have been using for about a year and a half) topeak's customer service is awesome. the pump is cheap, and we killed the original head that came with it. but we called up topeak, and they were super awesome and sent us a few different updated heads, including some smartheads.

anyway. we've never had trouble getting psi up to 110, i don't inflate much past that so can't vouch for it. but i'm happy with the twentysomething dollar investment we spent on it when we bought it off nashbar or wherever.

I've been using a cheapo Topeak Joe Blow pump that I picked up at TJ Maxx, of all places, for about $20. It's still going strong after 3 years. I don't pump my tires up to more than 130 psi, so I don't how it would handle higher pressure.

Pfft. That'd be the Silca Pista. Made from a tube of Columbus steel, fully rebuildable. Mine's 20 years old and is in perfect working order.... and goes to 240psi.

getting my psi easily in the three digits is like a dream. i used to have a hard time even getting up to 90 with my bell pump... i hate being broke.

+1 on that. I love mine.

I bought an old Silca Super Pista from a mechanic at my LBS. That thing is a dream. +aliens to the Silca reccomnedation.
