How I spend Friday Night

So I just built up and rode my first fixie. Here she is. Before I get the common things:

1. I have to take it to the shop tomorrrow to remove some links from the chain. I don't have the right size chain tool.

2. Can't decide weather to leave the chaingaurd and rack.

So what should I name her?

Ooops on the poll thing to "What is is her name?" Can't fix it though, oh well.... I'm an idiot.

DoshKel 08-25-06 08:49 PM

You are going to ride with a brake yea?

Moose 08-25-06 08:58 PM

Bikes with names rule.

Bikes that have a gender and a name are hard to beat.

The blue has an electric quality to it.
I'd name her Electra or Elektra; or more obscurely, Roz or Rosalind, after Rosalind Russell who was the title character in Mourning Becomes Electra; or Amelia (Earhart) whose airplane was named (The) Electra.

i would call it "Ahk'Tar the Mobile"

More than likely. The bike was originally an english-style 3 speed with coaster brake. So I have to rummage through some parts and see if I can find a break with the right reach. For now I'm just riding it in empty parking lots

Ooooh, thats nice :) Still have that 3-speed/coaster brake wheel?

Chain tension looks a little slack...is it as tight as it can go?

Nice. I'd keep the chaingaurd, and rack, but change the seat to an old Brooks.

I'd call it "the blue bike" even though I'm pretty good at coming up wth clever names, I never can seem to get them to stick to bikes or cars, so I generally refer to them by color, or purpose. ie the fixie, the shopping cart the cross bike.

GirlAnachronism 08-26-06 09:34 AM

I refer to my bikes by their colors also.

Something about gendering and then posessing objects just sorta leaves a bad taste in my mouth...

DoshKel 08-26-06 12:04 PM

I'd call it the blue wave... or someting cliche like that. I love cliches.

jyossarian 08-26-06 03:02 PM

I have a connundrum. My bike is a Rob Roy, but I refer to my bike as "her" or "she". Will she require psychological counseling when she grows up? BTW, her name is Darling if that makes a difference.

Cyrus 08-26-06 05:04 PM

Just call her red, because it's blue.

So here are the final (so far) pictures. Got the chain links taken out, and added a brake. So far miller is the winner. The frame is way to small for me, but I do have a blast riding it. Think i need to get a larger sprocket, the uphills are a bit challenging.

Thanks

Ray

Name it Ookla the Mok.

Sammyboy 08-27-06 01:43 PM

I gotta pile of long reach Weinmanns that should do the job reach wise. I'm in the UK, but drop me a line, and I'll send you a pair for the cost of shipping ($5 or so)

DeafLamb 08-27-06 08:55 PM

Took the chainguard off. It was rubbing, plus I like the cleaner look. Not going to bother messing with it anymore. It will fun enough to play around on till I can find a suitable frame that fits me better.

Thanks

I like it, well the name anyway. I'm not particularly fond of blue balls.
