post pictures of your bag/size help

please? im looking into getting a chrome bag, but i have no idea what to expect size-wise. i cant find any good pictures from the back of bags, specifically the metropolis and citizen. i need it for school (books binders etc) and a change of clothes. im leaning towards the citizen because i dont want it to be a montrosity, but i also don't want to have it bursting open.

the backpack i have now CLAIMS to be about 2000 cubic inches, but it isnt very big... is the bag i have now measuring itself differently than a chrome metropolis bag, which looks huge and is only 2000 cu. in.?

oh and im am 6'3"

this is awesome, thanks, except still no pictures of people actually WEARING the bags... anyone have any pictures they can throw up here?

TNCLR 08-29-06 03:13 PM

There are pictures of people wearing them on the Chrome site. It also lists the measurements in a thing called "inches". Check it out.

get the metropolis. the citizen is gonna be too small.
i'm also 6'3" and it's what i have.

pdizzle 08-29-06 03:35 PM

also, is that ipod carrier worth the $18 or should i just try to find something else with a belt buckle...

mobius 08-29-06 03:44 PM

Go with the Large (not sure of the name) it is what i have im about 6' 160lbs and scrawny and it fits my back perfectly and fits a good deal of stuff in it. I have the radio holster (was sold as the cell holder when i bought mine) and it works good on the chest with easy access for the phone. I dont have the ipod holder though, i keep my ipod in my bag and wrap the cord around when walking around, don't listen to it when i ride around here.

rustang 08-29-06 03:55 PM

i use a timbuk2 ipod holder. i like it better than the chrome ones, cause you can flip it open in order to switch tracks, adjust volume while riding, etc.

Surferbruce 08-29-06 04:54 PM

the citizen is pretty small indeed. you'll be happier with the metropolis.

Zen Existence 08-29-06 06:38 PM

Picked up a Metropolis a while back. Made me want to use my old Timbuk 2 to clean out my cat box with. Sweet fit, perfect size. Uh, the Metropolis, not the cat box. The cat box is actually a little small. I'm 5-10, 140, cinched up it's barely noticeable.

go with the metropolis. I've got a citizen and there are far more times that I think "I wish I had more bag" than "I wish I had less bag." I can fit a 35mm manual camera in its case, a liter waterbottle, a sweater, some tools, a pair of socks, a t shirt, a small melon, a swimsuit and a pair of underwear and i'm less than 5' 4" and have small clothes.

kalani79 08-29-06 07:32 PM

Had a citizen originally, sold it to a friend and got the metropolis. I never ran out of room with the citizen, but I certainly could imagine scenarious where I would.

I have the metropolis, but want to get a Kremlin. I can fit A LOT into the Metropolis though. The only problem I have with my chrome bags is the seat beat. I got the bag and the seat beat material was kind of frayed where the seat belt is. I didn't think muc of it and now a year later its getter pretty bad. I need to call chrome to see what I can do to get that repaired. I'd hate to see its life cut short. My ipod[20gig] fits perfectly into the cell holster but I usually don't listen to music while riding. I'd go with the Metropolis unless you plan on carrying a ton of stuff and then some.

I'll second or third or whatever the metropolis

Anyone have a Bailey Works bag?

dirtjump132 08-29-06 09:19 PM

wanna see my balls?

BuddyMike 08-29-06 09:49 PM

I have a bailey works bag in addition to my metropolis. Both bags have their pros/cons. To each their own. I paid 145 for my Large bailey worksat the shop I went to [169 on the baileys site.] thats the same I paid for my Chrome. The BW is slightly larger for the same price. The strap is replacable which is something I don't like about Chrome bags. As I mentioned before, my strap on my chrome is fraying pretty bad.

In Absentia 08-29-06 09:58 PM

If you want to carry binders and books and a change of clothes, you'll need the Metropolis. A binder and books will pretty much fill up a Citizen without much room for anything else. The Metropolis doesn't feel as big as it looks; it's very comfortable.

gregtheripper 08-29-06 10:05 PM

i used to ride with a medium chrome and went for a x-large bailey works. so much better. the extra room doesn't hurt and the bailey has better proportions (not as shallow). its a very similar design in terms of tightening/loosening also, and the strap pad is good. the stabiliser strap is great though since its easy to tighten and is attached to a clip with a loop that can move up and down the strap. good to adjust on the fly.

Don't know the DC area but there are a few listed here:

contrary to the trend, i am not a fan of toting around ridiculously oversized messenger bags like almost every other bike kid in town.

i have a citizen and find it to be the perfect size for me. if you can't fit what you need in that bad boy, learn to carry around less stuff. it fits my 15" laptop (in its huge padded sleeve with the charger and mouse stuffed in the pocket), a sketchbook or two, and still has some room to spare for odds and ends.
