Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

You want original gear so you can conform to the cliche of those that don't conform?

He just doesn;t want his messenger freinds to despise him for riding a cheap bike or wearing cheap clothes. It's a serious problem and I suggest he deck himself out in rapha gear to avoid such a situation.

I roll bums for my messenger-influenced duds. Broken in, comfy. Plus they already stink so you don't even have to ride to smell ...

Part of the messenger credo is never tell where you buy your clothes.

The question of where to buy messenger clothes comes across as from somebody looking to look the look and becoming part of the culture. The question appears as somebody looking for a shortcut to being cool. There are no shortcuts to being cool.

To the OP, see what you think of these clothes:

OUCH. there are some vicious people in this thread. It makes me giggle yuo cads.

to the OP.

Try a few

www.trackstarnyc.com
www.nashbar.com Believe it or not messengers do where cycling equipment.
goodwill
salvation army
ebay

The problem you will have is that most of the "messenger people" you try to look like dont have a specific location they buy thier clothes from. You will see them in everything from old Polo to brand new levi. It's kind of a wear what you get your hands on idea.

So wear whatyou can get your hands on IMO and make it look SUPAFLY.

(surplus gear, much made in USA; retrofit for knicks, foul WX riding, etc.)

save $$$, make your own:

It might be cheaper to check out the Army Surplus store. NOS, used stuff. Depending upon where you live, they might even have surplus from other countries. Like Canada or Brazil.

Jeans and a t-shirt work great. Working on spinning like a pissed off train and you can wear anything you want. I know a cat thats so fast he could ride around with a butt plug and a bib.

That said... I do enjoy passing yuppies in a full race kit almost as much as hipsters in hoodies. Slow is slow posers are posers.
