Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bed-stuy biker hit tonight

My sister called me from Brooklyn just now telling me that nearby the A & C station exits a biker got slammed by a car and blood covered the road, cops are there right now but the guy who was in his early 20's wasn't moving. Please, if anyone hears more about this or has friends in the Brooklyn Bed stuy area, contact them to make sure they're ok.

not trying to thread jack but something else that happened tonight that i'd like more info on (cross posted from the nyc board):

"i was riding over from brooklyn to manhattan around 5ish and it was crowded as **** with peds. on the way up passed one business guy on a bike ducking down behind his bars and bombing full speed, followed by another guy going pretty fast on a 20 cruiser with his feet pulled up onto his top tube. he almost ran into me trying to pass someone and coming into my lane.

then i get to a group of four people, two on one side kneeling and apparently comforting a small dog. acorss the path from them was a guy laid out with and a girl sitting beside them. there was a good amount of blood on the path, i guess coming from the guys head. i feel like a dick for not stopping, but i was already running late to get somewhere. the guy was chatting with the girl and seemed relatively ok. seems like he was probably heading down into brooklyn and came up on this couple walking a dog and got clothes lined in the leash.

this just made me even more annoyed with the people i had passed, who had just passed this wreck, and were still bombing down the crowded bridge.

then i passed a guy in a blue jump suit who walked up on a garbage can and just picked it up and dumped it upside down. i yelled "way to be a ****ing *******" and he told me to come back and say it. i kept going and found a cop at the bottom of the bridge who i told about the accident and he casually started walking up the bridge. i thought about telling him about the jumpsuit guy but didn't want him to get side tracked.

anyways, look out on the bridge until the other path opens up. it's hectic. and if anyone knows the guy who went down lemme know how he's doing."
