red locktite+rotafix=??
 

Since the search function doesnt work for some odd reason, i hate to ask this again since it has been posted. But if i run red locttie on a suicide hub without a lock ring would it come loose if skid? BTW i do have a front brake so safety is still here.

rotafix alone if done properly should be enough. I am not a lawyer, this is not advice, please don't sue me when you die. Red locktite rarely fails if you put the cog on real tight. Either or, but I would say both is overkill. A properly rotafixed cog can take two people with all their might to take off.

If you can run a lockring, do it if you value safety, simple as that. Some freewheel hubs take BB lockrings in case you didn't know that.

Massive overkill.

Loctite and torquing the hell out of it should do. Just remember you'll need to take a torch to the cog to get it off.

that's what im most likely going to do since i do have a brake on it. If it does come loose i'll just put a lockring on, thanks for all your input guys.

overkill is WAY better than not enough. do everything in your power to make sure that thing never comes off.

FFS... You have a brake can you just chill out? I'm riding on a hub that I received with no idea if it was rotafixed, locktited, or what, and it has no lockring, and I'm brakeless.

Here's your safety chart:

Lockring #1
Rotafix #2
Locktite #3
Torqueing real hard with a chain whip (only recommended on velodrome) #4

(that's just my estimation anyway)

combine them as you wish, the safety compounds, but so does the difficulty of removal. Locktite+rotafix=you may never get it off. I have no experience with this, but my brain tells me if a rotafix can take two big guys to wrench it off, imagine rotafix plus something that's already hard to undo.

Has anyone heard of a rotafix coming off? I haven't, but I have heard a number of cases of locktite coming off.

If your hub takes a lockring, just do it. Get it over with, you'll feel safer and they're less than $10.
