Any good fixie shops in Tacoma?
 

My wife just got the word she's getting a job in Tacoma. What are the good shops or co-ops in Tacoma?

Never been to a shop there but its a cool town once you get used to the smell.

gotta love the Tacoma Aroma.

don't know of any shops down there but seattle isn't very far away, and there are a ton here. all of them are nice, and all of them i'm sure would order stuff for you and hang on to it until you could come pick it up. most shops i've talked to are more than happy to answer questions about whatever you want providing they aren't too busy. try Counterbalance for that. (but you knew all this if you're moving from seattle to tacoma :))

Wait, what is the smell from? I've heard a couple of different things. It's kinda trippy for me because I haven't been there yet. We went to Seattle for the first time in the spring and decided that we had to get out of the midwest. She flew out for the interview and said it looked cool, so I'm hoping she's right. It sounds like we want to live in north tacoma, right?

It's from the pulp mill.

Ok, cool. I can handle that. Someone had told me that's what it probably was. I'm just glad to be getting out of here. The northwest seems like a better place to live.

I hate to admit it, but I'm kinda from tacoma.

north tacoma is really pretty, very hilly, almost completely removed from the pulp mill smell (which originates in fife, not tacoma) but also the most expensive area of town. by a bunch.
6th Ave is as close to counter-cultural as it gets for that town.
hilltop is cheeeap and full of amazing victorian houses to rent/buy for cheap as long as you dont have kids. it gets the brunt of the smell which honestly, you only get probably 3 days out of 7.

I lived in lincoln during my teenage years and it was totally fine and very accessable to thing things I wanted to go to. (mostly the tacoma mall transit center so I could take busses to seattle).

My advice is to live near wright park on either the hilltop or stadium side.
it's really pretty right there, very historic, SUPER close to downtown, usable road access, awesome transit, the park is beautiful, relativly flat(ish), and still pretty affordable.
it's basically right on the line of north and south T.

I havent a clue about bike shops. It's been years.
