flat/riser bar -vs- drops / geometry question

i just got a steamroller and i'm trying to figure out what kind of bars i want. i am leaning towards a flat or riser bar , but i dont know how to make that work geometry-wise. on my cross bike, i have a 52 cm TT and a 9 cm stem w/drops, and that fits me perfectly. the surly has a 53 TT, so if i use a 10 cm stem, i'm still coming up about 7-8 cm short.

so i guess my question is, how do you get proper riding position with a flat bar without using a ridiculously long stem?

The idea with flat bars is usually to put you in a more upright position. If you want to ride in a drop position, use drops. Or you could try a 13cm stem and see where that puts you.

psh I would run and 80mm stem and rock the risers then you can see up ove traffic and its like riding a la -z - boy
