Well, this means to me that there is PRICE FIXING with the bikes... what do you think. That means we the consumer are paying to much money$$$$. This is a sad day in the bike world.

It's called Mutually Agreed Pricing(MAP) and it's done all the time.

Price fixing would be if Trek, Giant, Felt, Specialized, Cannondale, Bianchi, et al, got together and agreed on prices for their bikes.

After months of exhaustive research on which budget bike to buy (conclusion: there's very little difference, buy what feels good to you), I just bought an '07 Raleigh Rush Hour today (my first SS/FG; I'm a BMX convert). Unless I'm mistaken, the decals now appear to be under the clearcoat. I guess Raleigh got tired of people making it look like a no-name. Not sure if that makes a difference to anyone, but that seemed to be a selling point of the '06.

What do you guys think of the Iro Jamie Roy and the Raleigh Rush Hour? I was thinking of getting those or the Angus.

Hey Leaderbike...
you might want to double check the geometry for that frame....something is off. According to whats posted, the headtube of the 57 cm frame is shorter than the headtube for the 54 cm. That can't be right.

bmike 04-06-07 12:35 PM

Just built a CrossCheck as a FG/SS (had I to do it over it would be FG/FG).
$1095

xc frame
cane creek brakes and levers
salsa rims (delgado's? cross rims)
surly 32 hole hubs
salsa bell lap bars
sugino crank (low end)
surly dingle cog

not as cheap as some... previous i had a redline 925 that i never got into.
the redline cost me something like $495

Hi! My best friend is looking to build up a bike or buy a complete bike that she can ride single speed and later convert to fixed gear. She is petite, light, 5'3-5'4, probably looking at 49cm frames. Her inseam is 29 inches, so we're looking at a standover height around there. Anything bigger than a 50cm frame is too big for her.

She's looking to spend no more than $300, which seems impossible. Is it?!
She's not picky about condition/color, as long as it is rideable and we can work on it.

We've been checking out Craigslist and Ebay and looking at new track frames like Pake, etc. but after frame and fork price, we've still got a lot of buying to do for all the parts to build it up, and we'd be taking it to a shop here in Boston for them to do it.

Any suggestions?

Bikes direct has the Windsor Hour in 49 for $300. Other than that, I think you would pretty much be looking for a conversion if you need to keep it under 3. However, if you are patient, you should be able to get an acceptable bike to rebuild for around 100, add 150 for some wheels and 50 for a chain, cog and lockring. You could do it for signifigantly cheaper if you wanted to.

EDIT: Oh and there's this bike from SE for $250, but it looks like poo.

anyone here have an opinion on the new schwinn madison's?

http://bicyclesource.us/itemdetails.cfm?ID=13974

they look really nice and as a complete bike goes, it looks really nice (comparable to the track or pista).

sizing is giving me a bit of a headache as they come in S, M, L, X-L. what the **** is that? does anyone know roughly what this translates too?

My buddy rides a Bareknuckles. Loves it. Of course, on top of that reasonably-priced frame, he slapped about a grand worth of components, so he'd better love it.

Surly is making a Steamroller complete now...if this is not a new development, I apologize. Check your LBS, but JensonUSA.com is selling them for $630, shipped. I wish I knew that before I bought my Rush Hour a few months back. C'est la vie.

what do they mean by "true aero down tube" and "Made exclusively for track" is there a reason this cant be used on a bike used on the street?

Your link is broken. There's no real reason why a track
bike couldn't be ridden on the street, except that there
are not typically brake holes on a track frame.

Hopetoditchcar 04-26-07 02:01 PM

sorry about that, heres the link http://www29.instantestore.net/merch...d_ld_735tr.cfm
why is this pure track geometry? and what is that "true aero down tube" for?

el twe 04-26-07 02:07 PM

Aerofashiondynamics.

(Forget who said that originally.)

Hopetoditchcar 04-26-07 02:25 PM

what does having "track geometry" entail

Generally a shorter wheelbase, steeper angles, and shorter fork rake gives a track bike much quicker (twitchier) handling than a road bike of comparable size.

soo, this may have been previously discussed but what is the deal with the cheap fuki track frames, besides being ugly. are they at all decent for the 250 range?

KHS Flite 100 vs. IRO Angus

i thought i'd post my question here instead of making another "versus" thread and hopefully i'll get some help. i've been looking into buying a complete bike and have it narrowed down to the KHS Flite 100 or the IRO Angus... Used just for city commuting, probably never make it onto a track

Here's my noobie understanding of the comparison:
-Angus has more of a road geometry which will make riding more comfortable
-Angus is lighter than the Flite b/c it's made of reynolds 631 and the Flite is made of 520
-Flite comes with better quality components (or so says my LBS)
-Flite's wheels aren't good quality

It seems like the IRO is a better choice for my purposes, but I like the look of the KHS more, and it's the only one i'm able to test drive. I'm also just as concerned with quality and price as I am with geometry. So my main question is whether the KHS's geometry and weight should prevent me from getting it. Is the "road geomtery" that much more comforatble? Thanks!
