surprisingly no one has yet mentioned the soma rush. i got mine
awhile back when it was still made of reynolds 631. i payed $340 shipped
to my door in switzerland from house of track, (i don't know how he makes
money ...maybe he doesn't) on the soma site its listed at $375. still i
think for that price its a good frame though i can only comment on the
631 reynolds model.

it has a nice square track geometry and is pretty stiff. the welds are good and
small and become even less noticable with a nice thick powdercoat, which i
would recommend, considering the paint isn't all that great. the bb shell should
be drilled if you're going to use it for the street and it takes quite a beating in a
daily use street-scenario. otherwise it also handles well on a track. it also builds
up fairly light, i think mine is right around 18lbs with phil hubs and deep v rims.

Great idea for a sticky 165. Is there any way that BF could host a wiki for this sort of thing?

didnt get a chance to really look at the components, but for $519 for a complete bike, it didnt look bad at all.

I don’t have San Jose but I do have a Pista (see attached). I love it. I got it about a month ago for $499 at the LBS. The intention was to get some exercise and get back in shape after a very long hiatus from the sport. I ride it every day on a big flat track that’s a short distance from my house. The only thing I did was to add a front break and peddles with toe clips and straps. The only reason I added a front break was that I live on a big a** hill. No complaints.

Pluses: very cheep, sturdy, fun to ride, leopard pattern saddle and nice geometry.

The Bike Biz has a Fuji track for $449 and a Bianchi Pista for $549... I want a bike for casual commuting (3 miles or so each way) and the occasional longer ride. Is the pista worth the extra $100?

My grrrfriend loooooves her San Jose.

Meh, they're pretty comparable. The only notable differences I can come up with off the top of my head is that the Pista has a threadless headset, which some people prefer.

I've put 800 miles on my IRO Jamie Roy so far, a 53 cm stock except Deep V's, Nitto horns, Brooks, stock front brake. I love this bike, 5' 8" 31" inseam, 110 stem, bike fits great though I'm wanting to be lower than the 0 degree stem provides, also stem is very ugly and I suspect heavy. Seatpost I hate hard to tighten, my first replacements will be stem and seatpost will get matching Thompson. Stock tires stink replaced after 100 miles, ditto tubes, blew 2 stems (pyramiad, yech!) Brooks saddle is amazing, Deep V's built rock solid, I'm 200 pounds and ride very hard on bad roads, they are holding up amazingly well, Very Well Built Wheels! Hubs are very smooth. Nitto Bullhorns I love, used them back in my Tri days. Crank, ring, cog and chain are all doing the job great, had to tighten up the lockring a couple times but this is normal I think. FSA headset, this is the one spot I really wish I had upgraded to King right away. After a week with a couple days in some rain the headset actually froze, took it all apart and regreased but the bearings are cheap and cheesy and I know I will need to replace headset soon. Get the upgrade headset here, I should have known better not my first time regretting going cheap on headset. The frame and fork are stiff and solid, paint is beautiful and durable for an AL paintjob. No flex at all. Bike is fast tight and solid I love it! A couple more adjustments and it will be perfect.

Canti breaks, fenders, fat tire clearance, laid back geometry, level top tube, sit up posture, black paint, easy-off stickers, flip flop hub, all for just $700!


....I think the Raleigh One-Way will be my next fixed gear. Yessir.

Who has experience with the Raleigh Rush Hour? I ride a conversion now but am aching for a real fixed-gear ride and I need a bike that won't make my wife too angry. Let's keep it around $600 or less.

(shill disclaimer, I work at a Raleigh dealer) The Rush Hour's cool !;) Actually the 2007 is getting an upgrade on the tubeset, going from 4130 to Reynolds 525. Not sure if the color is changing or anything. I've been waiting for months to get the One-Way, should be here next week, report to follow.

i've put 4 or 5 thousand miles on my bike over the past year (ride it almost everywhere i go) and it has been pretty great. when i bought there was some kind of problem with the bottom bracket but the shop replaced it no sweat, i also stripped the hub and they replaced that too [both issues were probably their fault, i think when they sold me the bike they didn't actually think i would ride the fixed side] i've trued the wheels twice and have a set of "race blade" fenders for the ****y weather. i replaced the bars with some bullhorns but that is a prefrence thing. also got mks gsr9 pedals. the paint is really chipped and scratched, mostly through my own abuse but the paint is weak

I've also got a rush hour, definately a great bike. It's held up damn well to my abuse, and I've actually found the paint to stand up fairly well, had two pretty rough crashes last year and the paint is still in good shape.

The things I didn't like: the stock levers are kinda annoying to get on and off, though I circumvented that by ditching the drops and getting bullhorns. I also found the stock pedals to be uncomfortable as well as really small.

I just got a Pake built up for me, picked it up on Friday, rode it home 10 miles in the rain and took it out last night for shortish ride. Frame feels solid, friendly geometry and all around I am liking it even though I admittedly have not ridden it that much.

I got frame, fork and Chris King headset for $350. I am sure some say that is too much for what you're getting and when I read similar comments before I tended to disagree, but when comparing it to a Raleigh Rush Hour or a Bianchi Pista (or a few other complete bikes) this price indeed may wind up taking this bike into the higher end of "budget fixed". After finishing off this bike with all other parts (cranks, wheels, stem, handlebar, seatpost, saddle, etc.), the bike will likely go over that of a Bianchi Pista, Raleigh Rush Hour and others, asssuming of course that not much would be changed on those other complete bikes. Sure I did not have to get a CK headset, but I got a good deal on it, so I bit.

I really like the way the bike looks, like the geometry, like that I built my own wheels for it, but just thought I would throw out that commentary about the cost. Food for thought, if you will.
