$350 for a used KHS Flite 100????
 

Hello all,
My local shop has a KHS Flite 100 on consignment for $350 firm. It's last years model (Yellow) my size, and not terribly beat up, plus new tires. Question is, is it worth it? The crank set is Truvativ, the wheels and hubs are no name (At least I couldn't see one), bars are cinelli, the stem looked stock, no name brake caliper and brake lever (barely works too). I don't know if I should bother considering it. So I turn to the "experts" or at least those that have more information than I.:D
So what do ya'll think? Pull the trigger and pick it up? or save the cash and buy a nice set of wheels for my schwinn conversion?

considering you can get the exact same bike, new, on ebay (badged as a Mercier) for $3 less (shipped), no.

with that info perhaps I could get them to bring the price down. What would you consider a good price then? I was also thinking along the lines of supporting my local shop. He's a small shop, cool guy too, so you know...

she only lists them once or twice a month, so if she doesnt have anyup now, just email her and she'll tell you when she plans to list them again.

nothing on eBay right now... but every month or two a bunch of new mercier kilo TT's (and windsor hours) get put on eBay. they end up being $347 shipped. its the same khs/mercier/windsor frame with basically the same junky components on it, but for a complete, new bike, its not bad.

so it depends on the condition but what you described is probably worth somewhere between $200 and $300 to most people... of course, if would probably go for at least that $350 asking price on eBay.

and to answer the OP's question, assuming that not only is the frame the same as my "mercier", but the components are the same as well, $200.

my cranks were machined so poorly that it holds my chainring at a slight angle and it's already out of round with maybe 1000 miles on it.
the wheels are pretty much terrible and the hubs aren't sealed so if you plan to do any winter/rain riding, they'll need to be replaced.
I love my bike and would reccomend it to anyone else looking for a decent bike to ride for transportation purposes, not for "ohh look at that bike" purposes.
personally, I'm in the process of riding the crappy components into the ground at which point I'll buy better wheels and drivetrain biz.

the mercier/khs is not the same as the windsor.

So even though you know the stock parts degenerate quickly (same with the Motobecane Mirage I bought from her last summer) you'd still recommend that over spending a couple hundred more for a ride with components that won't **** on you constantly?

I had to get that bike serviced so many times that it negated any savings over an entry level bike from the LBS. Also, **** Alex wheels.

yeah, i'd still recommend it despite the shiatty parts

the crankset it comes with is no better or worse than any of the cranksets that come on other entry level fixes (IRO, pista included). and the $200 savings will cover a set of IRO wheels when the time comes.

WHy dont you work on your own bike? A bicycle is one of the simplest things to work on in our society today. It takes no special knowledge or skill to maintain a fixed gear bike. Save you some money man. :)

here here. plus, the frame is pretty damn light for such a cheap bike.
mine weighs 18.2 total but the only thing stock left is the drivetrain and wheels, which, as mentioned earlier, will be replaced when they crap out this fall.

It was the first bike I took seriously and I didn't know jack **** about adjusting derailleurs (still don't). Other than that it's just a matter of having the right tool (still need a chain whip and a good pedal wrench).
