The agony and the ecstacy
The agony:
http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/2449/agonyho0.jpg and the ecstacy: http://velospace.org/files/right_flank.jpg The repaint is finished, with a few extra trimmings. Metallic blue like an '82 Trans Am got the most poll votes, so I added a twist- state pride with nevada colors: blue like the sky, silver like the comstock, and a shiny stainless steel headbadge brazed on to match. I'm afraid my city bike has gotten a little too nice for it's intended purpose... but damn it looks good. See more detail on velospace. |
if thats a rattle can job, you are a master.... looks great. i must say i really didnt like that chainring before... but it really works well with the new paint! great work!
|
What kind of chainring is that?
|
yep, rattlecan. it took two weeks to paint- 2 coats of primer, 2 of each color plus two coats of clear. i sandblasted the frame prior to painting.
the chainring is a suntour bmx from the late '70s. much better match now. |
Wow. Nice job.

the paint is all duplicolor. it is best to keep the brands the same from primer to clearcoat, that way the chemistry is most compatible. the blue metal flake costs about $10 a can. the silver metallic and ultra white are both automotive touch-up colors. the key to rattlecan is to keep even strokes, and lay down a fog coat before laying in your color coat. clean everything you touch with acetone so you don't get fish eye or orange peel. sand primer with 800 grit, etc. oh, and buy the expensive masking tape, not the cheap stuff. not too hard, really... :D

!!!
F*ck Yeah! Nice job. |
That bike is the sex

I came
|
What originally happened to the paint?
|
Your bike has scoliosis
|
Wow. That looks sweet.
Did you do the fork crown match-up too? If so how, as I'm getting mine back from the chrome-ers soon and will begin the repaint. |
Great job.

Looks beautiful! I see you already got a couple scratches on the downtube from the brake adjuster. I use a couple of wraps of bar tape finished with a wrap of colored electrical tape to avoid brake dingage.
Grey cloth covered with blue electrical tape would look ok on your bike I think. |
Wow. That's really ****ing good. I'll stop being proud of this one now...http://www.flickr.com/photos/baldylo...7594217415202/
