i had an idea for a clips and straps specific shoe,

internal reinforcement on the top of the shoe designed to distribute the pressure of the strap across the top of the foot and to allow you to keep the straps tighter and maintain comfort,

removable "beams" that run through the center of the sole that can be slid out from the back of the heel and thrown in your bag when you want more flexibility in the sole.

make it look like any other low profile sneaker

is there any way at all that I could possibly get my hands on one of those now? Im about to sell my car and ride year round again and I plan on building a chopper over the winter. I dont think the old mechanics jacket is going to take the beating.

i remember there was a shoe made by nike (i think) that had
a removable insert for the outer sole that could be exchanged
for a harder or softer heal.

an interchangable plate, as suggested by enlacalle, would be ideal.
(now puma just needs to step in...)

i have prescription orthotics that i stick in my shoes for arch support. they seem to work for providing stiffness as well. dunno if the drugstore kind would work or not but it's a thought.

puma has been a sponsor for other pro cyclist and still have yet to make a spd shoe. I remember seeing pics of April Lawyer who was sponsored by puma put tape on her spd shoes and sharpie puma logos on them.

Puma also has their hands in Nascar. Dale Jr. wears their racing gloves and shoes. They were also featured in that Talladega Nights movie.

I think there were 20 available in NY at a store in the LES and 20 available in SF through HUF. I tried one on in NYC last christmas, but the smallest size they had was a Medium. Had it fit I probably would've bought it as it was a really nice cycling jacket - it seemed like it would've been great in the winter muck. The air filter thing is admittedly gimmicky, but I like gimmicks. Sue me.

Those all rely on lace closures which suck.
Whats needed is.
-stiff as ****(walking in a stiff shoe isn't that bad)
-soft rubber on the bottom for traction
-good closure system
-tolerable looks.

If you just want something that looks normal get some of the bmx style spds that just look like skate shoes with slightly thicker soles.
