Wheels On Back

I’ve got to carry a set of wheels on my bike over a long distance. I’ll be wearing my Chrome bag and figured I’d somehow strap them on my back.

They’re not heavy, but I need to keep them from shifting as I’ll be riding in and out of traffic.

Anyone have an ingenious idea for carrying wheels on a bike?

use the straps that your bag has to buckle the wheels down. also, put a little padding in your bag so theres not an axle in your spine. also, bring zip ties to get the wheels as close together as you can.

I have used long tube socks to secure both frames and wheels to my bag. Just make sure they are super tight.

Cut up an old inner tube to tie the wheels together at various points...this works great.

weird. i have to do this exact same thing today and was just trying to figure out a solution.

You might also want to lace a toe clip strap through the velcro at the base of the shoulder strap.
That way the wheels will be attached at 3 points.

I also recommend padding the axles, and zip tieing the wheels together.

You guys are great. Excellent ideas, fast and true.

what ryand said. Worked for me every time. Keep in mind though that it you could potentially hit someone's sidemirror off with the wheels. Certainly get them as close to each other as possible.

i've done this in the past by using the straps of my bag to secure the wheels to my bags through the spokes. they didn't really shift during transportation.

additionally, secure them to the main strap (stabilize them) with webbing or the like. I have done this multiple times (securing wheels together, then secure and stabilize to bag via flap straps and main strap) carry wheels from the Loop to 7800N. Like a charm, Mayo!

i've strapped a full bike (with the wheels on) to my bike and ridden it several miles. i just put the flap down over the top tube and brought the buckles up through the wheels to secure it. the fork didn't even flop around because the front wheel was kept in place. it worked like a charm - although, i took up a lot of room on the road, heh.

I carried two sets home for about 6 miles one time. I def hit them on a couple car mirrors...good-times for sure.

after a bike aquisition trip a friend and i rode home, me wearing a bike frame, and him frame across shoulders wheels tied in back. it was kinda hectic, but that made it fun.

Use an old toe strap and loop it under the velcro on the strap and attach the wheels to it. Then use the lower buckles to hold them up, with the straps around certain spokes to keep it centered on your back.

There's a thing called a 'fork' at the front and 'dropouts' at the rear of your frame. They might bolt nicely into these and you can 'ride' them home..... ;) :D :D

(Before anyone gets uppity, I'm joking)
