They wouldn't warranty my wheels even though they admitted to my LBS there was a known issue with the spokes they used. Granted I didn't start snapping spokes for 18 months but still kinda crappy. The LBS owner was nice enough to rebuild them with DT spokes for the cost of the spokes.

Hey SOMA Fabrications, hope you're "listening". Better make good on your products. I was contemplating on getting a SOMA frame, glad I didn't, yet.

Leif-fire-eater 09-21-06 02:25 PM

that's horrible. I can't believe they'd send someone an unpainted frame.

Bad news.

vinnydelnegro 09-21-06 02:41 PM

sounds terrible. not that i was thinking of buying a soma, but i know i won't buy one in the future. the one guy that defends soma on that thread makes it sound like the frame broke because of how hard it was being riden. correct me if i'm wrong (perhaps don walker could weigh in here), but i wouldn't expect steel to break unless it was crashed. a frame breaking along the seat stay or chain stay sounds like defective tubing or welding. anything is possible though.....

on the flip side....the guy has access to a powder coater but doesn't want a black or gray bike?! damn...if i had access to one of those, i'd be buying extra bikes just so i could paint them!

frames will break. i'm sure even the "best" companies
have had frames fail on customers. yeah, it sucks that
they didn't paint it, that was definately bad on their part.

i've had no problems with my rush and i haven't heard
of anyone who has had a problem with the rush. (this is
a road frame i presume)

anyways, i think its funny that one guy's frame breaks
and people start writing in this forum, 'oh, i won't buy
those damn soma frames now'. that doesn't seem to
happen in the case of good old crack-n-fail.

crack-n-fail replaces their ****

Learn_not2burn 09-21-06 03:06 PM

Stuff breaks, so the frame breaking can be understood. The sending it back unpainted? that **** sucks. Definetely not cool.

travsi 09-21-06 03:19 PM

^(last two post) all true.

Shiznaz 09-21-06 03:30 PM

Haha I just bought a SOMA to ride across Canada. Hopefully it won't fall to pieces so I become victim of bad customer service!

travsi 09-21-06 03:52 PM

you're going to ride across canada? not in the winter i hope...
