i've ridden adidas sambas, low top chucks, and now a pair of adidas rod laver's.
i've been looking at some of the macbeth lineup, specifically the harbor. anyone have any experience with these? i've read mixed reviews of the durability and sizing, some of their lines run smaller than usual, while some run larger...aaaargh...

Isn't the idea that you can wear whatever shoes you want? If your going for specific shoes you may as well just ride clipless, imo. FWIW low top Vans, or Sidis depending on bike.

Leather Onitsuka Tigers are perfect. Smooth sole, just the right amount of cushioning, fits into the clips perfectly.

any low profile sneaker with a footprint that doesn't narrow significantly at the midsole (as is not the case on most running shoes), a reasonably stiff sole and a relatively flat tread should do you right. indoor soccer shoes, puma suedes, and asics onitsuka tiger (gantrai or mexico 66) are some examples.

Sambas. They are the best. Always the best. I just got some clipless Samba-type shoes that were made in France.
I like.

Adidas AdiRacers. Find the ones with the velcro top strap that lets you tie the laces under the tongue if you can. Could be stiffer, but far and away the best shoes I've found for clips and straps yet.

Wide-style Chuck Taylors fit great, but the sole is too flexible.

Most days I wear dunks and or low top zoom airs (look just like dunks), but if I roll out at night I try to wear a pair of New Balance 574s since they are pretty reflective. Both are easy to get in and out of MKS sylvans and don't show too much wear.

My girl wanted sambas soooo bad, but we could NEVER find them in her size. Judging by the amount of people already that said they rock them, I'm guessing they're readily available somewhere.. and btw, I hope you're talking old school sambas, and not those wack new school ones.

I was so happy when I tried riding with them, what a difference over shoes with bendy soles or no padding on top.

I like these:
(Adidas Rekord). The soles are a little bit too flexy but getting in and out of clips is really easy, and there's just enough tread to grip the pedals a little without getting hung up.
