As requested: My Cayne Uno
Hey guys and gals. I just bought a Cayne Uno. I know people were interested in seeing it and hearing what it was like.

Specs: Frame: Steel Front hub: formula track Rear hub: formula flip-flop Rims: Alex DC19 Tires: Hutchinson 700x23c Crankset: truvativ (not sure which one.. the ****ty set that comes stock) Seatpost: some no name aluminum Head Set: cane creek Front brake: Tektro dual pivot Stem: IP Saddle: Comes stock with a "custom flite" but I've put my own on The cog that comes with it is a ****ty stamped cog. The ratio it comes with is 46x18, but I've got a dura ace 16 tooth cog on it. The handle bar tape and flip and chop are my doings... So far it's a great ride for being sub $500. I wasn't looking for anything too fancy, just basically an around town/semi-commuter. There are some things about the frame that I don't like, but they are all cosmetic. I am switching to a Paul crankset, mutant stem and probably a Miche Supertype Seatpost. In the spring I might go for a new wheel set, but I'm not sure. I will also step down a notch with the handlebars, they are a 42cm and that's a bit wide for my lady frame. Let me know what you think. |
Nice! How's she ride?
|
Sweet bike. Very sweet. Nice job on the bars too... they look good. Looks like it has really comfortable geometry... bet it is a blast to ride huh?

Hell yes! It's great for what I paid for it. The geometry is great, track yet stil lax. Great for me coming from two years of conversins. She's a beau, I can't wait to make her my own completely. |
Thats ****ing sweet. So sweet.
I hope she treats you right :). |

Nice... every time I see a bike that comes with formula hubs instead of quandos, it makes me smile.

You might have some trouble with the Miche seatpost. It's not very long, and since you have a compact frame, you might need more seatpost than you will have to get a good fit. I'd at least try it out before dropping coin. Yeah, I don't know if you saw my thread I posted last night titled "Miche Supertype, help!"... that was exactly what I was trying to figure out. The seatpost itself is 220mm long with hits my right in the center of where the seatstays hit the toptube.. Someone helped me out by measuring to the insertion line.. just gotta get home and measure it! I'm crossing my fingers.. I really love the black alloy Miche supertype, I think it would look swell. I've found it for $30. |
my friend just bought a stock of these bikes and is selling them in Savannah. puts them together and sells them and offers free work/maintenence for life by him. pretty good idea cause these bikes are pretty damn nice. if i hadn't bought his old frame i would have dropped the money for one of these Unos. couldn't get over how nice they were compared to a stock pista haha. biased.....just a bit, but some of you would agree.
the paint is dark dark dark grey with metal flake....sexy. nice setup, red :) |
That looks nice. Unless they're noticeably floppy, I wouldn't bother replacing the cranks. they look alright, and that kinda money would probably be better spent towards wheels. not that there is anything wrong with Formula hubs. Sounds like most of the changes you want to make except the bars are for aesthetic reasons. I can appreciate that, says the man with the green chopped Brooks.
edit: I looked at the pictures of your bike, and there is no way a supertype seatpost is going to be long enough. actually there is no way a standard 250mm seatpost would be long enough. looks like you need at least a 350mm post. also that post has zero setback, and you've got the seat all the way forward, so any setback post is going to move your seat back from where you have it now. |

Chucksbikes still has the black Supertype for $30.
