Even though the stiches are gone and most injuries are healed I am still overly cautious. How have you gotten over this?

Just keep riding. It'll go away on its own.

2 bad crashes and 3 metal plates later im still riding like a nut. you'll be shaky for the first few weeks, then you'll be cautious and slow for a month and then you'll forget anything ever happened.
timmhaan is right, itll make you a better rider, relearning good habits and gaining something from going down.
crashing still sucks tho.

Riding with other people makes it go away a lot faster. I'm still definitely in the sh*tty afraid stage from my shoulder and the assh*le truck nazis who popped their door in front of me just to scare me and laugh the other day aren't helping.

that's when you say 'it's too bad, really, you shouldve done that yesterday when i didnt have my lock with me' and proceed to demonstrate its effect on glass/door/skulls.

I once went down while cornering at 25+ mph (on a road bike). I wasn't hurt too bad; just roadrash on my arm, shoulder and knee, but it was very hard for me to corner at even decent speeds (15+ mph) for over a month afterwards. I still think about it any time I hit a corner while going fast but I am pretty much over it. It just takes time.

I crashed on a metal bridge that looks like a cheese grater and it grated me. I broke my nose, tore my lip through to inside my mouth, ripped my knee to the bone so I had fat cells all over my pants. Lots of stiches.

Whisky seems to work wonders, as well.
...then again, whisky's usually the reasons for my crashes.
