I would be scared riding in sandles with my toes that close to the spokes. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

Grab handlebars, get a running start, step on the little platform above the rear wheel, then catch the pedals.

Ever have to make a speedy getaway on your fixed gear? Much like that, only with more acrobatics involved. To get down, do the inverse steps.
