naked frames and the people who love them

any of you got any pictures of bare metal frames with a) clear powdercoating b) clear coat paint or c) wax finishes?

i can't decide what color my new frame should be and the bare metal is ever so tempting, however i can't find but 1 picture in all of my forum searching.

Heres mine...

Kinda bad pics... But i can get more if need be...

I really like the way it looks, havent clear coated or anything permanent yet, just waxing it and using a teflon protective spray we have at the shop. Seems to be blocking rust just fine....

can you just remove the decals and still leave the paint intact?

Nope, no brakes. Pics from when i first built it, I now have new pedals with clips and straps, and i couldve put it on the right side, but i wanna be different, also i always unclip my left foot, now i dont have to worry about chain rings on my right leg. And yes i do realize that the pedals may unthread while riding, but the weekly check with a pedal wrench prevents that. So far have never had any signs of them unthreading either.

And no, im not a muscle car bro... Its the only image hosting site I have a profile for, so thats why I use cardomain...

It can look really good:
https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2005...BlackSheep.htm

I also saw another with hexidecimal code on it that looked even better I thought, but cannot find it. (was at MTBR.com in the SS forum)

I took the paint off my Trek 520 and then clear coated it. Was a royal pain in the arse. Looks industrial now though.

ooh. so that's the bike! i saw the first picture from another thread but never the complete bike. very nice. has a metal flake look to it from the media blasting? sand blasted i assume?

did you clear coat over the clear powder? seems to be a popular choice as far as i read.

I made the frame. I bought the fork off eBay. for the last hour I've been trying to remember who made it. all I can remember is he's sorta famous in the track framebuilding world, Irish name, that may or may not start with 'D'

Not a very good picture, but the bike was blasted and then
clear coated (paint). I wouldn't recommend i with paint. The
bike build ending up costing way more than expected and I
didn't have enough money to get it properly painted. For the
record, that other bike was already laying down when I
needed to lock up real fast. Oh yeah, Errebi straps suck.
Broke those in 2 months.

wait, that was a bare metal frame clear coated and it turned into that color? did it start out that "piss yellow" or did it turn to that over time?

1. it looks whack
2. you can't really comfortably use the drops in that position, can you?
3. you're not giving yourself a very good platform for your hands if you are standing up and hamemring or skidding or doing anything where your hands aren't in the drops or right on the flat part of the bar.

any particular reason you put them like that?

i had a $5 bike from a thrift store and was bored. it was fun, quick, inexpensive, and easy way to make an old nothing frame fun to work on and build up. i left it pretty rough with lots of paint around the lugs. it looks pretty. right now it's waiting for a smaller chainring to turn it into a grocery getter.

That's the way it came from the shop. It was called "clear" but translucent brown or yellow would be a better description. It is a clear coat, just tinted. Luckily I like the color even though it wasn't quite what I expected.
