Possible new nike for a good price. Is this is steel a deal?

i can get an old columbus tubing steel racing road bike brand new for $200 at my bike shop. it is just my size and the [paint is flawless. it is only the frame with fork but on the semi-horizontal dropouts it has what looks like screws in the back of it but the frame feels like it is only 2 or 3 pounds. the front and rear dropouts are campagnola by the way? should i go for it or what?

Yep. If you're stoked on its paint job, and it's actually new old stock...sounds pretty good.

forget about all that **** you posted, three things to consider: does it fit you, can you afford it, will you be happy riding it? if so buy it

Gyeswho 10-03-06 08:43 AM

yea, its a 58 which is perfect since my fixed i have now is 58. it is a beautiful orange color and since it has campy drops i know it is not a cheap frame by any means, i have the $ now for it and since my b-day coming soon i hope i get the $ right back. i will def be happy riding since it is much lighter than my frame i have now.

You could always flip it if it's not the right size for you.

xthugmurderx 10-03-06 09:54 AM

but, for a little more than $200 you could get a real "track" frame. well, an iro, which are nice...just saying. but if you like the old conversion route, by all means..do it up!

i'd prefer a conversion with nice tubing and construction over a so-so stock track frame.

Do it. And tell us what kind of frame it is. And the tubing.

I recently got a Kotter Albuch Columbus SL frame from 1990-ish days, and I love it. It's my geared bike, but I'm giving a strong +1 for the awesome old stuff.

Just like my NOS cyclops track frame... so so fresh. Old steel with original minty paint is always great.

vomitron 10-03-06 10:53 AM

buy it, ride it, then when you get a nice track frame, put gears on it.

i always felt like really higher-end conversion are the same thing as nice track bikes with internally-geared coaster brakes.

88 Cinelli with Columbus tubing

trons 10-03-06 09:38 PM

is it a cinelli or does it just have a cinelli bb shell?

moki 10-04-06 12:28 AM

you said BIKE, right? If the components are decent and you can afford it, and intend to ride it, what the hell are you waiting for?

Nothing more specific? Columbus made and continues to make tubes of varying quality/price points.
