is there an updated version of the Benotto cellotape?
On the topic of wrapping handlebars for a classic ride, I was wondering if there is any current bar tape that is comparable to the old Benotto cello bar tape... perhaps even adhesive?
What prompted me to ask is the bike in the window on the homepage of https://www.fyxomatosis.com/ - haven't tried but I would think that doing a pattern with cellotape should require a lot of patience and might not be very durable?

That plastic tape seems to be the same old cello tape - not that there's anything wrong with it! (most fine things in life are 35 years old and may have been replaced by newer things in the public's eye but not surpassed as far as I'm concerned). Anyway, if so it can be found elsewhere more cheaply, and since it's not adhesive it's probably always good.
As far as patterns Bicycle Magazine reportedly ran an article in the 80s explaining how to "weave" the tape to make a pattern (the harlequin one probably) but if so, I was wondering about feasibility (frustration of accidentally having the tape unravel as you are half way done) and durability of doing it with a tape that is not adhesive, since by definition half of the tape would be rolled in the opposite way that it actually should to prevent it from unraveling when you pull on the handlebars. But then maybe it's possible, but maybe not desirable, to put some sticky stuff on the bar before placing the tape to help keep it in place... I might never find enough free time to try it myself ;)
