velocity getting sued?

My friend went to the LBS attempting to order a Deep V, and encountered some trouble getting the specific variant he wanted. According to the bike shop, Velocity is being sued bigtime and supply is therefore limited. True? Any info? Sounds sketchy to me.

Sued for what? Sounds intruiging!!

Maybe some idiot fell off his bike and squished his nads on the top tube and claims it would never have happened had he been on different rims.

Yeah I heard Eddy Merckx made some decree that Deep-Vs are no longer to be allowed on bikes.

even if velocity was getting sued, i'm sure as rim manufacturers they likely have some hefty insurance and it probably wouldn't effect their operations. i could be wrong, but sounds like a BS shop excuse to me.

liability insurance, sure - but what if it's something to do with patents or distribution rights?

A mechanic of mine commented about his dislike of deep v's. He claimed the rims were made from weak metal. In my case the spokes pulled the nipples through the eyelets. He said, he'd seen many examples of that?

Nothing solid, but I'm kind of beginning to suspect something like that. ka12na's deep v has the biggest, flattest spot I've ever seen on a rim, and I totally caved in the sidewall of one of my own (though that was easily reparable). I normally ride on old singlewall rims I scavenge from junk, and I totally beat the crap out of them, doing silly things like riding 20 miles on a flat, and I've yet to completely ruin or even seriously damage any of them.

Though, I also utterly tacoed one rim that I believe was a rebranded Mavic and another of the same model cracked and had spokes pull through. I'm actually beginning to think that modern rims are weaksauce in general and I'm better of sticking with the stuff I find on the curb.

Spokes pulling through eyeletted rims? Velocity must have seriously ****ed up in that case (barring a really crappy build or crash)

***** my araya's failed tonite!

I need a lawyer...and some cheap open pro's.

My only exp w/velocity rims is 26" ...I got 4 free in a competition(trials)...they sucked.

And why anyone would want to run them on a fixedgear is beyond me.

Since I can't find Araya rims anymore...I've gone over to Mavic...or if I had to Sun...them there Velocity...bah!

Farkas, the v's were not all that old, as I recall. Maybe tensioning was wrong from the gitgo? In spit of that I still put on anoher set of v's on my commute bike. Would have thought normal but for the mechanic trashing velocities.

Sun is sueing Velocity for copyright infringement. All those with Velodity rims will be forced to pay a license fee and submit to being featured on a Pepsi commercial about the evils of rim bootlegging.

That's where my mother happens to live, not where I grew up. But I agree, South Carolinian accents are worse than Australian.

i want to know as well.

hell being a larger guy, i beat the **** out of my velocity rims never a problem, but then i don't wait for problems to occur and keep my rides in excellent working condition in order to be able to pound the crap out of them.
