No it was not. Look around. People are stripping campy groups off of beautiful frames and throwing some piece of **** purple kmc chain on there so they can practice their gnarly skids. It's horrible. In 10 years when mass produced track frames are a dime a dozen you'll have a harder time finding classic road bikes because they've all been stripped of their groups and rattlecanned. Not the best ones obviously, but still a large number of road bikes are being parted out to get to the coveted conversion-ready horizontal dropouts.

I agree wholeheartedly. I do in fact ride a conversion. But it is/was a VERY rusted ceased (crappy) componented Sekai 400.

Leave the purty ones alone.

modernfuturist 04-27-08 02:59 AM

I really want to start riding fixed gear, but BikesDirect's bikes are currently out of stock.

Hows this Fuji Track Bike?

God yes. I'm all for conversions, but smart and sensible ones. Not something like this.

The rider butchered the bike initially by chopping off the cable guides, and since it was a 6'4" rider on a 54cm frame, the seatpost eventually indexed the seattube and the frame was ruined. Now there's one less vintage Bianchi out there, because some trend-monger wanted to pretend he had a track bike.

A lot of this is true, however conversions don't necessarily mean the old frame is totally destroyed. I've got an old belgian frame I converted, and I left the paint and cable guides alone. It isn't people who convert thats the problem, its people who try and fake having a track bike by ******** up their old frame.

Well, maybe when PEAK FIXIE rolls around, I'll have to concede this one, but at the moment I think you're ****ing high.

KHS AERO TRACK

modernfuturist 04-28-08 12:37 PM

Getting quite frustrated... I just want to start riding fixed, but I can't find any reasonably priced frames in LA, and BikesDirect is backordered for at least another month. I'm considering getting an IRO Mark V, but then I saw this on Craigslist....

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/bik/652643563.html

Any opinions?

MLPROJECT 04-28-08 02:59 PM

rush hour is a good frame. bite that bullet.

ChristianJames1 04-28-08 03:47 PM

hey guys. im new and looking to buy my first fixed gear. i came across this on craigslist. what do you all think? those look like Alex R450's in the picture, and I know that Alex doesn't have a great rep in the road biking world. Any help would be awesome!

delicious 04-28-08 04:24 PM

that is way, way overpriced.

JonasG 04-28-08 05:20 PM

Agreed... Overpriced, but looks like a nice bike.

corter 04-28-08 05:20 PM

i dont understand why anyone would even consider spending $300 on a conversion with random parts, let alone $550. you could get a super nice mid level complete for that much, you can even get a brand new SS for $300.

don't get it.
