let's see...

$900 in 1975...

today that would be equivalent to purchasing a pepboy hybrid for $399,000

Looks like he paid 900 bucks for a bike that way too big for him.

What does everyone think of this deal? I'm thinking of going this way for my first fixie, since at this price I wouldn't be too hesitant to actually lock it up outside for more than 3 minutes in Toronto.

On the downside I am robbing myself of the experience of building it from the ground up.

It's in the "Discussion of Budget bikes" sticky. Read.

I'll bet that bike is worth every penny at that cost. Not bad looking either for a budget ride.

I love these early 90s Cannondales, but for a bike that's over a decade old (even if "only ridden 15 miles") seems a litte steep for a starting bid. Still, superbe pro....

jandops 10-10-06 10:29 AM

this frame is pretty slick

"Mavic Open SUP":

http://cgi.ebay.com/mavic-open-sup-c...QQcmdZViewItem

I read that SUP just refers to a technique that Mavic uses in building these. My question: Are these closer to the Open Sports of today or the Open Pros? Aka, should I just buy open sports for about the same price? Thanks...

JAH

baxtefer 10-10-06 02:52 PM

SUP = Soudé Usiné Process = the joints are welded then machined.

FWIW open Sports aren't welded.

They are also 28 hole rims.

Yeah, he has been trying to get rid of that bike for a couple of months now. Hasn't sold and I think he had a starting bit of 900$USD on his original auction.

MLPROJECT 10-10-06 09:29 PM

SUP = what's up

Suzue Promax laced to an aerohead and deep V. Around 200, worth it?

I'm starting to fixate on this bike. I keep looking to see if anyone's made a bid...you know, using the 'idiots run in packs' method to justify my own stupidity...no one yet. What do you think a fair price is for this bike, giving the guy the benefit of the doubt on the "barely been used" front?

Good luck getting it shipped to Canada... I tried and no amount of beggin or pleading would convince "sportymama" to send it north o the border

"By the way, I paid $900 for it in 1975"

BTW I paid $90.00 for one in 2005 and converted it and gave it to a friend...It was red though, maybe black cost more:rolleyes:

Yeah I actually got the story from her. While I'm bummed I sorta understand. I'm back to building my own (which actually isn't such a bad thing!)

It sounds like a good opportunity for Canadian specialty shops actually. This whole thing has driven my search for a frame etc. locally, which is a good thing as well.
